Lord’s Museum Unveils Sachin Tendulkar’s Iconic Portrait

A special honour for one of cricket’s best players was shown at the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground. The MCC Museum added a new piece to its famous collection—a picture of Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar.

This painting by famous artist Stuart Pearson Wright honours the “Master Blaster” and now hangs where legends are remembered forever. The event happened before the third Test match between England and India.

Tendulkar also rang the well-known Lord’s bell, adding another special moment to his great career.

Yes, you heard that right! Cricket’s ‘Little Master’ Sachin Tendulkar has received yet another honor—this time at the “Home of Cricket.” On July 10, just before the third Test between England and India kicked off, the MCC Museum at Lord’s unveiled a stunning portrait of Tendulkar.

The painting, created by Stuart Pearson Wright, was based on a photograph the artist captured at Tendulkar’s Mumbai home nearly two decades ago. What makes it even more special? This is now the fourth Indian cricketer to be immortalized in MCC’s collection—and the fourth by Wright himself, joining the likes of Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, and Dilip Vengsarkar.

The portrait will be displayed in the MCC Museum for now, but is set to move to the Pavilion later this year—an honor reserved for cricket royalty.

I first visited Lord’s as a teenager in 1988, and returned in 1989 with the Star Cricket Club team.

I remember standing near the pavilion, soaking in the history and dreaming quietly.

Today, to have my portrait unveiled at this very place is a feeling that’s hard to put into… pic.twitter.com/ZC987eH8oZ

[UPDATE] “Full Circle” Moment for Sachin at Lord’s

The report said that Tendulkar felt very touched during the ceremony. He thought about where he started in cricket and how Lord’s was the place for his childhood dreams. “In 1983, I watched Kapil Dev raise the World Cup at Lord’s. Tendulkar said, “That moment sparked a fire in me.”

“Today, with my picture in the Pavilion, life feels complete.” He shared on X about his first trip to Lord’s in 1988 with Star Cricket Club and how that experience made him love the game more.

If that wasn’t symbolic enough, Tendulkar was also honored with ringing the Lord’s Ground bell—an elite ritual that marks the beginning of play each day at the venue.

According to reports, only legends are invited by the MCC administration to perform this act.

The bell, located outside the Pavilion’s Bowler’s Bar, is rung exactly five minutes before the first ball. Tendulkar, who once dreamed from outside that Pavilion, now stood inside it, ringing the bell for a Test between the very nations that shaped his career.

Four out of five Indian portraits in the MCC Collection have now been painted by the same hand—Wright, adding visual continuity to India’s cricketing legacy in the UK.

Amit Mishra’s Thoughts

As a writer and cricket journalist, and enthusiast, this time is not just for show—it’s deep and meaningful. Lord’s is not just a place; it is a special home for cricket, and Tendulkar’s picture now sits with its greats.

From seeing Kapil Dev lift the World Cup in 1983 to being in that special Pavilion, Sachin Tendulkar’s journey is like a beautiful story. His picture on the walls of the Lord’s is more than just a painting—it shows the dreams of many people made by his bat.
