Denmark Open Badminton second round

In the opening round of the Denmark Open Badminton 2025, men’s singles player Lakshya Sen and men’s doubles players Satwik-Chirag have successfully won their respective games and have sailed to the second round of the tournament.

Sen defeated Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen by 10-21, 21-8, 21-18, while the sixth-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley by 17-21, 21-11, 21-17, respectively, to book their place in the pre-quarterfinals of the competition.

Denmark Open 2025 – Lakshya Sen’s Comeback

In the ongoing Denmark Open Badminton 2025, the Indian badminton stars, Lakshya Sen and the doubles pair Satwik-Chirag, have made an impactful start in the very first round of the competition following the hard-fought victory at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, and have advanced through the second round.

World No. 21, Lakshya, was a gritty performer in men’s singles as he conquered Ireland-based Nhat Nguyen 10-21, 21-8, 21-18 in a one-hour and 19-minute match. Sen, a semi-finalist in the Paris 2024 Olympics, started slowly in the game and conceded the first set without much resistance. Nevertheless, he made an incredible recovery in the second game, beating Nguyen and letting him only score eight points.

In the final game between Sen and Nguyen in the Denmark Open Badminton Contest, both players displayed their competitive nature, especially when they matched each other point for point. However, India’s Sen showed great composure on the court, holding his nerve till the final point. At the end, he won the game by 21-18, and registered his third win in four career meetings against the Irish shuttler.

Satwik-Chirag’s Early Success

On the other hand, in the men’s doubles category, the sixth-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made an incredible comeback after dropping the very first game. The Indian pair fought against the Scottish team of Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley, 17-21, 21-11, 21-17, in under an hour.

The Scottish brothers began well, and the first game was 11-9, but Satwik and Chirag recovered and took the first game. The Indian duo did not give up, and in the second game, they came hard, grabbing the lead right at the start and making the score 1-1. The match was close, with the Scots prevailing 11-10 at the halftime break. The Indian duo, however, demonstrated their power play, as they won 11 out of the 17 points that followed to secure their spot in the next round.

At the same time, in mixed doubles, the Indian pair of Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan bowed out early after a loss to Indonesia, 14-21, 11-21, against Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil.

With the win in the opening round of the Denmark Open Badminton, Satwik-Chirag will face the Chinese Taipei pair Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan, while the 24-year-old Lakshya is likely to face either Denmark’s Anders Antonsen or Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting in the second round.

Bigyan Samele’s Perspective

As a badminton enthusiast, Lakshya Sen and Satwik-Chirag’s hard-fought wins, in the Denmark Open Badminton 2025, is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport despite the situation. It was exciting to witness the 24-year-old shuttler coming back into the game after being one game down. Similarly, the doubles pair also made an incredible comeback in the second and third game when they were also a game down by 17-21.

If these Indian players continue to display a similar kind of passion in the upcoming games of the Denmark Open Badminton, the trophy is certain to be back home. I am looking forward to the next game in the tournament since the Indian shuttlers are observed more when it comes to having tough competition.
