sachin tendulkar information

Sachin Tendulkar is an Indian former cricketer widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Born on April 24, 1973, Tendulkar has broken numerous records in his 24-year career, including being the all-time highest run-scorer and the first to score 100 international centuries.

This article provides key Sachin Tendulkar information at a glance, from his full name and age to education, height, and major career stats, all covered in this biography.

Sachin Tendulkar Age & Early Life

Born on 24 April 1973, Sachin Tendulkar turned 52 this year. This means Sachin Tendulkar birthday falls on April 24th each year, a day celebrated by cricket fans across the nation. His zodiac sign is Taurus.

Family Background

A Mumbai native, he grew up in the Sahitya Sahawas Cooperative Housing Society in Bandra (East), a colony for writers, since his father was a renowned Marathi novelist and poet. On the other hand, his mother, Rajni, worked in insurance.

Furthermore, Sachin is the youngest of four siblings:

  • Nitin Tendulkar: Eldest brother, former Air India employee, keeps a low profile.
  • Ajit Tendulkar: Second elder brother, key figure in Sachin’s cricket career, who introduced Sachin to coach Ramakant Achrekar.
  • Savita Tendulkar: Elder half-sister, gifted Sachin his first cricket bat.

Despite the urban upbringing, Sachin Tendulkar village roots trace back to the coastal region of Maharashtra. The Tendulkar family hailed from a village called Tendul in the Konkan area, and Tendulkar literally means “from Tendul,” linking the family name to that village. In a way, Sachin’s surname itself is a nod to his ancestral village origin.

Early Personality and Interests

As a child, Tendulkar was mischievous and even bully-like, often picking fights at school. Moreover, he grew long hair, wore wristbands and carried a racquet, idolizing tennis star John McEnroe.

However, his passion shifted from tennis to cricket after he was introduced by his brother Ajit when Sachin was around 10.

By 11, he was already under Ramakant Achrekar’s coaching at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

What Is Sachin Tendulkar Real Name?

Fans often know him just as Sachin Tendulkar, but his real name is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. He was named after his father’s favourite music director, Sachin Dev Burman. While Sachin’s full name is formal, he’s earned plenty of friendly nicknames too.

In Sachin Tendulkar biography pages and among his fans, he is fondly called the “Little Master” and “Master Blaster,” reflecting both his short stature and explosive batting style. Another popular Sachin Tendulkar nickname is “Tendlya,” a casual Marathi nickname used by friends and teammates.

Sachin Tendulkar Height In Feet & Other Physical Attributes

Sachin Tendulkar height in inch is approximately 65 inches, which complements his compact batting stance and low center of gravity. It can be said that Sachin Tendulkar height in feet without shoes is recorded as 5 feet 5 inches.

Though he might be modest in stature, he used his height to his advantage with a low center of gravity and impeccable balance while batting.  And throughout his career, he maintained a solid athletic build.

Moreover, Sachin Tendulkar weight during his playing days was around 72 kg (159 lbs). Here are Sachin Tendulkar body measurements and other attributes:

Sachin Tendulkar Religion & Caste

When it comes to background, Sachin Tendulkar caste is Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin, and he practices Hinduism.

Talking with the 1999 Times of India interview, he states, “God is an important part of my life. In fact, I believe that God’s hand is present in everything we do, and we are very small in front of Him. I do worship gurus and Deities such as Sai Baba and Ganapati, among others.

Nevertheless, Sachin Tendulkar caste or background never became an issue on or off the field – in fact, his popularity cuts across all religions and communities.

Sachin Tendulkar Education & Schooling

Speaking of Sachin Tendulkar academics, the veteran is a high school graduate. Tendulkar’s early schooling began at the Indian Education Society’s New English School in Bandra, Mumbai. At this stage, he was an energetic, mischievous child, and cricket was more a passion than a career plan.

Once his elder brother Ajit and coach Ramakant Achrekar recognised how special his talent was, they realised he needed an environment where cricket facilities and competition were much stronger than at his existing school.

Growth Under Ramakant Achrekar At Sharadashram

On Achrekar’s advice, Sachin shifted to Sharadashram Vidyamandir High School in Dadar, a school already famous in Mumbai for its formidable cricket culture. Here, he trained intensely at Shivaji Park and played inter-school tournaments that were far more competitive, allowing his batting to flourish quickly.

This school offered him daily practice, stronger opposition, and structured coaching, which helped him balance basic academics with an increasingly professional cricket routine.

Sachin’s days often began before school with nets at Shivaji Park and continued with matches or further practice after classes.

Decision to Skip College

As his cricketing career took off, he was already playing first-class and then international cricket, which demanded year-round travel and training.

As his cricket career progressed, studies beyond school took a back seat. Even so, his schooling years in Mumbai were crucial in shaping both his discipline and cricketing foundation.
