Pakistan dominated the second day of the second Test match against the West Indies. The match took place at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on 3 August 2026. Abdullah Shafique scored an unbeaten 107 runs, while captain Babar Azam remained not out on 86 runs to make a total of 266 runs by losing 2 wickets.
Consequently, Pakistan now trails the West Indies by only 78 runs in the first innings after the hosts were bowled out for 344 earlier in the day. Pakistan leveled the two-match series following their 90-run defeat in the opening game.
Pakistan Mounts a Strong Reply in Trinidad
The visitors dismissed the West Indies just before the lunch break. Pakistan lost an early wicket but maintained a good scoring rate throughout the afternoon and evening sessions.
Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam shared an unbeaten 168-run partnership for the third wicket. This partnership helped Pakistan to dictate the flow of the game and to build pressure on the West Indian bowlers.
Abdullah Shafique’s Return to Form
Abdullah Shafique played exceptionally in his first Test match since October 2025. He initially came to the Caribbean as an emergency replacement for the injured Abdullah Fazal. Shafique hit 10 fours and two sixes in his 185-ball stay at the crease. It was his sixth Test century and his first in almost two years.
He reached his century in the final over of the day, pulling a short ball to the midwicket boundary. Moreover, his batting coach Asad Shafiq praised his ability to respect the good deliveries but to punish the loose ones.

Babar Azam Closes in on a Century
Captain Babar Azam played a controlled innings at the other end. He scored 86 runs off 126 balls, which included 10 boundaries and one six. Meanwhile, he looked very comfortable against both the pace bowlers and the spinners.
Babar is now closing in on his first Test century against the West Indies and his first in the format since December 2022. His aggressive mindset helped Pakistan add 100 runs with Shafique from just 139 deliveries.

Azan Awais Hits Maiden Fifty
Before the big partnership between Babar and Shafique, young opener Azan Awais scored 55 runs off 71 balls, which included 10 fours. This was his first-ever half-century in Test cricket.
However, his innings came to an end when he was trapped lbw by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican. Initially, the umpire turned down the appeal, but West Indies captain Roston Chase successfully used a review to overturn the decision. Earlier, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq for 14 runs in the eighth over of the innings.
West Indies Bowled Out for 344
The West Indies resumed their first innings on Monday morning at 239/5. They managed to add another 105 runs to their overnight score before losing all their wickets. Justin Greaves top-scored for the hosts with a gritty 73, while captain Roston Chase contributed 70 runs.
The pair extended their sixth-wicket partnership to 96 runs before Pakistan took the second new ball. Consequently, the new ball allowed the Pakistani bowlers to clean up the lower order quickly.

Sajid Khan Leads the Bowling Attack
Off-spinner Sajid Khan was the most successful bowler for Pakistan. He took 4 wickets by giving 85 runs from his 32.4 overs. Ali Usman took 2 wickets by giving 80 runs. Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Ali each took 2 wickets by giving an average of 66.5 runs.
Sajid Khan claimed the final three wickets of the innings, including the wicket of Jayden Seales to end the session.
