In the recent election, Aminul Islam was elected as BCB President; now he has decided to expand his responsibilities as he is being appointed as Chairman of the BPL Governing Council as well. Initially, in the meeting under the new term, Aminul was entrusted with leading the Working Committee and Grounds Committee. With this recent election decision, he will be leading the BBPL Governing Council as well. This action signifies that the BCB considers the BPL Governing Council a strategic approach by merging governance under the president’s office.
Consolidated Committee Control & Structural Changes
Being the leader for multiple committees, Aminul Islam will control all the operations, ground infrastructure, and league governance. As both the BCB president and Chairman of the BPL Governing Council, he can directly influence the major decisions, such as BPL scheduling, regulations, infrastructure decisions, and commercial decisions. To assist Aminul Islam to make such decisions, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu was appointed Member Secretary of the BPL Governing Council.

Implications for BPL 2025 & Strategic Vision
Under this dual administration under BCB President Aminul, the BPL Governing Council is expected to act faster and be more efficient. The new board reaffirmed holding BPL 2025 in its traditional December–January window. Signaling the new era, the committee is already planning to rework media rights and operations partnerships. According to the reports by Daily Star, in this new tenure under Aminul, BPL will be a major focus with plans to issue Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and finalize agreements with organizers like IMG. This approach may reduce bureaucratic delays and also increase pressure and accountability on Aminul as BCB President and BPL chairman.
Challenges & Accountability in the New Role
Centralizing governing powers can increase efficiency, but it also concentrates risks. Aminul, as BCB President and BPL Governing Council chairman, will be directly responsible for any BPL missteps and downfall. There are several risks that might arise, such as logistical failures, disputes over franchises, or venue issues. In the financial part, the overlap between league regulation and the board may raise questions regarding checks and balances. Moreover, the exclusion of Vice President Faruque Ahmed from those committee roles signals that Aminul will have tight control over all decision-making. Stakeholders, franchises, along with the fans, will closely watch whether this new centralized government revolutionizes BPL 2025 or will it fail miserably.
Amit Mishra’s Take
The decision to appoint BCB President Aminul Islam as Chairman of the BPL Governing Council is bold and risky. It has its positive sides as well as negative sides. On one side, it promises streamlined decision-making and a unified vision for BPL 2025. On the other hand, it concentrates too much power in one office, which might start some internal misfortunes. Aminul will be under a huge pressure as he will be leading various committees by himself and will be responsible for all the major decisions. He will have to meet the expectations of Stakeholders, franchises, and fans. If he succeeds, the BPL could benefit from stronger governance. If not, he will have to face a lot of criticism.
