The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for the Indian squad following their T20 World Cup 2026 victory, setting a new record for the largest bonus in Indian cricket history.
The previous record was the ₹125 crore the BCCI awarded to Rohit Sharma’s side after their 2024 triumph in Barbados.
In a statement, the board said: “The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.”
How India Won the Final
India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Batting first, India posted 255 for 5 — a record score in a T20 World Cup final.
Half-centuries from openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, along with a contribution from Ishan Kishan, built a total that New Zealand never came close to chasing. Samson was the top scorer with 89. Jasprit Bumrah then dismantled the New Zealand batting lineup with figures of 4 for 15 in four overs, and the match was over well before the final over was bowled.
Historic Achievement
The win gave India their third T20 World Cup title, having previously won the tournament in 2007 and 2024. No other team has won the competition more than twice. West Indies and England have each won it twice, but neither managed to defend the title when they had the chance.
India, under Suryakumar Yadav, became the first team in the history of the tournament to successfully defend the title — a feat made more significant by the fact that no previous defending champion had even reached the final. The victory also made India the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil.
India finished the tournament with eight wins from nine matches. Their only defeat came against South Africa during the Super 8 stage, after which they won every remaining game to claim the trophy.
What the Players Will Receive
The ₹131 crore will be distributed among the 15 players, the coaching staff, and the broader support team. Each player is expected to receive approximately ₹6 crore before tax. After deductions of up to 40%, the take-home figure for each player is likely to land between ₹3.3 crore and ₹3.4 crore. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is expected to receive a comparable amount. The remainder of the prize pool will be split among the support staff.

ICC Prize Money
Separate from the BCCI’s reward, the ICC awarded India $3 million — approximately ₹27.48 crore — as the winners’ share from a total prize pool of $13.5 million. That prize pool represents a 20% increase from the 2024 edition, reflecting the ICC’s effort to raise the financial stakes around its flagship events.
In addition to the flat winning sum, India collected performance-based bonuses of around $31,154 for each match won during the group stage and Super 8s. When the BCCI reward, the ICC prize money, and the match bonuses are combined, India’s total earnings from the tournament exceed ₹158 crore — the highest figure ever recorded in the history of the sport for a single tournament win.
India’s Position Across Formats
The T20 World Cup title adds to an already strong collection of ICC hardware. India are the current holders of both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, making them the dominant team in white-ball cricket at present. Next year, they will have the opportunity to complete a clean sweep of all three ICC white-ball titles when the ODI World Cup is held across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. No team has ever held all three white-ball titles simultaneously.
For Indian cricket, the 2026 tournament will be remembered not just for the result but for the manner of it. Winning by 96 runs in a final, posting a record score, and doing it on home soil in front of a full stadium in Ahmedabad put an emphatic stamp on a side that has now won more T20 World Cup titles than anyone else. The BCCI’s record bonus reflects how much this victory meant to the board and the country.
