Brian Lara Urges Kohli to Delay Test Retirement

Virat Kohli Test retirement

Is Test cricket about to lose one of its biggest stars? Alleged news about Virat Kohli’s Test retirement have taken fans by surprise, and the cricket world is buzzing with reactions. As one legend steps away, another cricket icon, Brian Lara, is urging Kohli not to leave. What’s happening behind the scenes, and why is everyone asking him to stay? Let’s discover together!

Brian Lara’s Emotional Plea: “Test Cricket Needs Virat!”

In the ever-evolving world of cricket, where formats keep changing and players are constantly adapting, one thing has remained constant for over a decade — Virat Kohli’s presence in Test cricket.

But recent reports about Virat Kohli’s Test retirement have shaken the cricketing community. The star batter is reportedly considering stepping away from red-ball cricket, and the news has sparked reactions from fans and legends alike.

Among the loudest and most passionate voices is West Indies great Brian Lara, who has made an emotional appeal to Kohli: “Test cricket needs Virat!”

Why Is Virat Kohli Considering Test Retirement?

Many sources claim that Virat Kohli has told the BCCI that he would like to leave the traditional format, which could lead to his Test retirement in the near future. This comes after a few poor performances in recent Test series against Australia and New Zealand.

Although he did score a century in the Perth Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, much of the series saw him getting out in repetitive fashion — chasing deliveries outside off and edging to the slips or keeper.

To make things more concerning, India’s current Test captain Rohit Sharma has already announced his retirement from the format. If the Virat Kohli Test retirement reports turn out to be true, India may face the daunting England tour, with a notably inexperienced squad. Having failed to make it to the World Test Championship final for the third time, the absence of Kohli and Rohit could deepen India’s struggles in red-ball cricket.

Lara, Rayudu & Others Urge Kohli to Stay

Reacting swiftly to the buzz around Virat Kohli’s Test retirement, cricket legend Brian Lara shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. He wrote, “Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career.”

Lara isn’t alone. Indian cricketers like Ambati Rayudu and S. Badrinath have also urged Kohli to reconsider. Rayudu posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Virat Kohli please don’t retire… The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India… Please reconsider.”

These pleas draw attention to the larger topic of Virat Kohli’s Test retirement. In the longest format, Kohli represents passion, leadership, and intensity more than merely as a player. The squad benefits from his enthusiasm, and opponents all over the world admire him for his presence.

Virat Kohli is reportedly still in negotiations with the BCCI, which is advising him to postpone making a decision over his retirement from the Tests. The board, fans, and fellow cricketers believe there’s still a lot left in Kohli’s Test career—and they might just be right.
