As David Lawrence’s death is caused by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), this has left the whole cricket fraternity in sadness. Even England and the Indian team players wore black armbands in his memory.

The news of David Lawrence’s death came exactly one year after he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease. Interestingly, David Lawrence’s diagnosis came at the exact time of rugby legend Rob Burrow’s death with the same cause.
The Lawrence family issued a statement stating that with great sadness, we have to announce the passing away of Dave Lawrence MBE due to motor neuron disease.

There is no doubt that the achievements of Lawrence for English cricket are legendary. His family issued a tribute stating that he was an inspirational figure both on and off the cricket field.
Not only was he a critical figure to his family, but the England Cricket Board also paid tribute, stating he was a pioneering player. who left an indelible mark on the country’s sport.
Richard Thompson, the ECB chair, said Lawrence was a trailblazer of English cricket and a man with immense courage, character, and compassion.

The tall, lanky, and brutal fast bowler, David Lawrence, made his test debut in 1988 and his ODI debut in 1991. He played 5 test matches and a single ODI match in his whole career.
A talented bowler, Lawrence went on to pick up 18 wickets in the test arena with 1 five five-wicket haul. In the only ODI match played, Lawrence picked up 4 wickets.
Interestingly, his international career was cut short in 1992 when he had a serious knee injury. This injury made him quit international cricket.
But in the domestic format, he is a legend of Gloucestershire, having played more than 280 matches for them over 16 years.
Picking wickets day in and day out, Lawrence had 515 first-class wickets to go with 155 List A career wickets. His accuracy and great average made him a tough bowler to face.

I believe it was Lawrence who opened the pathway for black cricketers to be part of the England cricket team and perform to their best. A massive hole is made, which will be hard to fill.
