He further added, “The IPL, I only played two games, but every game and every occasion… Definitely, just knowing what I’m able to get out of myself when the situation is like that and when the atmosphere is like that.”

He stated that he enjoyed batting at number three and wanted to cement the role, as his successful Ashes debut showed how lessons from Bengaluru and experience from IPL carried straight into the cauldron of Test cricket.

Jacob Bethell’s Performance with RCB 

Jacob Bethell’s IPL experience amounted to two appearances, but they were high-octane. Signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 2.60 crore, he smashed 55 off 33 balls against Chennai Super Kings with eight fours and two sixes. He recalled the Chinnaswamy crowds of around 50,000 feeling like twice that number and said the noise taught him to breathe through pressure and trust his instincts. 

Those numbers show how even a fleeting IPL experience can provide the mental armoury for Test cricket. In addition to this, he is again set to feature for RCB in the 2026 edition of the tournament as he has been retained by the franchise, and is expected to be a key player when the team is under pressure.

Jacob Bethell Test Debutand Career So Far

Before Melbourne, the official Test debut for Jacob Bethell came against New Zealand in Christchurch on 28 November 2024. He impressed with three fifties and an average above fifty. But a summer in the IPL limited his county appearances to a single first-class match, and he looked rusty when recalled later in the series.

England turned back to him for the fourth Test when others struggled. In five Tests, he has 312 runs at 34.66 and three half-centuries. Together, a promising Test debut, his sharp IPL experience and a calm Ashes debut hint at a long future anchoring England’s top order.

Ashes 2025 Series Result So Far

Australia had already retained the urn by the time of Jacob Bethell’s Ashes debut. They dominated the first three Tests, so England’s four-wicket win in Melbourne merely narrowed the series margin. The scoreboard recorded Australia 152 and 132 against England’s 110 and 178/6.

With one Test remaining to be played in Sydney from January 4 to 8, Australia is still ahead of the series by 3–1.
