The International Cricket Council announced on May 14 that South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt and Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana were named Player of the Month for April. The two cricketers earned the prestigious honours for their world-class performances in international series during the month.
Specifically, Wolvaardt dominated the white-ball series against New Zealand and India, while Rana led Bangladesh’s historic series win over the New Zealand men’s team. Winners were selected through a global voting process by fans and a specialist panel.
Nahid Rana Makes History for Bangladesh Cricket
Nahid Rana secured the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the first time in his career. Consequently, he became the first male player from Bangladesh to win this recognition since all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz received it in April 2025.
The 23-year-old pace sensation beat tough competition from Oman captain Jatinder Singh and United Arab Emirates seamer Ajay Kumar.

Dominating New Zealand on Home Soil
The young fast bowler played a vital role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 One Day International (ODI) series win against New Zealand. Rana finished the series with eight wickets, average of 16.75, and economy rate of 4.46.
Furthermore, he disrupted the New Zealand batting line-up in Mirpur by taking five wickets for just 32 runs. This performance helped Bangladesh win the match by 55 runs. Additionally, he took two more wickets in the series decider held in Chattogram to seal the victory for his nation.
A Rising Star with Incredible Speed
Nahid Rana is an important player of the Bangladesh national team. Originally from Chapai Nawabganj, he first played with tennis balls before joining a cricket academy in 2020.
He is the first Bangladeshi bowler to record speeds exceeding 150kmph. Under the guidance of fast-bowling coach Shaun Tait, Rana has added reverse swing and accurate yorkers to his skills. Therefore, his consistent form against both Pakistan and New Zealand made him a clear choice for the April award.
Laura Wolvaardt Claims Third ICC Award in Seven Months
South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after a record-breaking month with the bat. She finished ahead of Sri Lanka’s Imesha Dulani and Brazil’s Laura Cardoso in the voting.
Interestingly, this is the third time in just seven months that Wolvaardt has claimed this honour, following her previous wins in October and December 2025.
Record-Breaking Performances Against India and New Zealand
Wolvaardt showed incredible consistency across different formats of the game in April. Initially, she scored 138 runs in two ODIs against New Zealand with an average of 69.00. She scored exactly 69 runs in back-to-back matches against the New Zealand team.
However, her most explosive form appeared during the T20I series against India. She amassed a total of 330 runs across five matches at a massive average of 82.50. She maintained a strike rate of 168.36. This helped South Africa secure a 4-1 series victory over the Indian team.

The highlight of Wolvaardt’s month was her performance in the third T20I against India in Johannesburg. She scored an unbeaten 115 runs from only 53 balls during a chase of 192 runs. Her innings included 14 fours and five sixes. Consequently, she let the team to a nine-wicket victory with a strike rate of 216.98. This century was the third of her T20I career.
