The International Cricket Council named Sanju Samson as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2026 on April 14, 2026. The recognition follows India’s T20 World Cup 2026 title win on home soil, where Samson played a central role across the knockout stages.
His numbers across the three March matches, 275 runs at an average of 137.50 and a strike rate of 199.27, made him a clear choice for the award.
From the Bench to the Finals: Samson’s World Cup Journey
Samson was not in India’s starting eleven at the beginning of the T20 World Cup 2026. He came into the playing XI for the Super Eights fixture against Zimbabwe in Chennai, where he scored 24. That was enough to keep his place, and what followed across the knockout rounds was among the most consistent batting performances the tournament has seen.
His defining knock came in Kolkata during a must-win Super Eights match against the West Indies. He finished on 97 not out, three runs short of a century, but the innings secured India’s place in the semi-finals. From that point, Samson carried his form into the two biggest matches of the tournament.
Against England in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium, he scored 89 off 42 balls as India posted 253/7 and won by seven runs. He then repeated the effort in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on March 5, 2026, scoring another 89 as India won by 96 runs to claim their third T20 World Cup title. Samson won Player of the Match in both the semi-final and the final, and was named Player of the Tournament for the full campaign.

On receiving the monthly award, Samson told the ICC:
