Vaibhav Sooryavanshi registered the maiden half-century of his international career against Zimbabwe in the first T20I at Harare, becoming the youngest player in the format’s history to reach the milestone.
The 15-year-old had struggled through India’s T20I series against England earlier in July 2026, scoring 14, 13 and 15 in three innings, but he found his rhythm while chasing a modest target of 126 runs.
His fifty came at the age of 15 years and 118 days, surpassing the previous youngest record held by Gibraltar’s Louis Bruce, who was 16 years and 56 days old when he achieved the feat against Malta in 2021.

Sooryavanshi’s innings did more than beat the T20I record. He also became the youngest player to score a fifty-plus total in men’s international cricket across all formats.

Blazing Knock Sets Up India’s Chase
Batting at the top of the order, Sooryavanshi played an innings that combined control with aggression. He brought up his fifty off just 19 balls, striking four fours and four sixes during his stay at the crease.
Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava eventually ended the innings when Sooryavanshi mistimed an attacking shot off a wide delivery outside off stump, sending a top edge to Ben Curran, who completed the catch at deep third.
Despite his dismissal, the knock had already put India in a commanding position in the chase of 126 runs, giving the visitors a platform that eased the pressure on the middle order.
