The ongoing Irani Cup 2025 is leaning slightly towards Vidarbha after the successful conclusion of day 4 against the Rest of India. On day 4, Vidarbha’s lower-order batters added much-needed runs to extend the lead by 360 runs. On the other hand, ROI struggled to cope with the massive lead as they were left unanswered on 30 for 2 in 12 overs. The early wickets taken by Harsh Dubey and Aditya Thakare left ROI crumpled down to their knees, with still 331 runs to be chased.
Vidarbha’s Dominant Performance on Day 4
Following the dominant performance from Vidarbha in the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, they are one step closer to winning their third Irani Cup title against the Rest of India. The team displayed all-round performance under the captaincy of Akshay Wadkar, especially the lower-order batters who held their nerves tight to set the challenging target of 361 runs.
The day began with Vidarbha continuing their second innings at 96/2 behind by 224. But the team encountered an early collapse, scoring just nine runs with three wickets falling to the hands of Anshul Kamboj, who bowled a remarkable spell on behalf of ROI. Kamboj, who had figures of 4 to 34, dropped Danish Malewar, Yash Rathod, and Dhruv Shorey in rapid succession. This was a blow, but Captain Akshay Wadkar led by example with a calm 36-run innings off 125 balls. He formed alliances with Harsh Dubey and Darshan Nalkande to get Vidarbha out of a challenging situation.

Following this, the rhythm continued for Vidabha as their other lower-order batters, Darshan Nalkande and Yash Thakur, added 35 and 13 runs, further helping their teams in setting massive runs on the scoreboard. As the second innings for Rest of India started, Vidarbha’s bowlers attacked from the front and picked two immediate wickets in 3.6 and 6.1 overs, respectively. Both opener batters, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Aryan Juyal, lost their wickets in just 17 and 6 runs. Right now, Ishan Kishan and Rajat Patidar are on the crease with 30 runs on the board.

What to Expect on Day 5?
As we are closing towards the fifth day of the match between Vidarbha and the Rest of India in the Irani Cup 2025, the Rest of India is expected to accelerate the game since they still need 331 runs with only eight wickets in hand. On the other hand, Vidarbha will be looking to pick wickets as soon as possible because they are in the right rhythm with the bowlers leading from the front. It is certain that day 5 will deliver a banger for the fans, but the game has leaned slightly towards Vidarbha.
Amit Mishra’s Perspective
As a cricket enthusiast, the dominant performance displayed by Vidarbha against the Rest of India on the day 4 of the Irani Cup shows the level of grit and determination they have shown throughout the match. Along with the captain, Akshay Wadkar, the lower-order batters contributed from their side so they could post a dominant score on the board. But on the other end, the Rest of India’s batters have not proved to be effective since they have already lost two wickets in 24 runs.
I cannot wait to see how day 5 unfolds and which team will come out as a strong candidate for the Irani Cup 2025 title.
