Australia ended their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign with a nine-wicket win over Oman at Pallekele on February 20. The result had no bearing on the tournament; Australia were already out of Super Eight contention, but it was a clean, professional performance.
Adam Zampa took 4 for 21, Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell claimed two wickets each, and Oman were bowled out for 104. Australia chased the target down in 9.4 overs.
Bowlers Dismiss Oman Inside 17 Overs
Australia bowled after winning the toss on a pitch that had been under covers before the game. Bartlett struck the first ball, hitting the stumps with a delivery that swung back into Kaleem. Oman lost three wickets in the power play and were 47 for 3 after six overs. Jatinder Singh made 17 before falling to another Bartlett delivery that he failed to cover. Hammad Mirza hit a six before Zampa bowled him in the seventh over with a low, skiddy ball that caught him on the back foot.
Zampa then took control. He had Nadeem trapped in front,Β a decision confirmed on review, before Maxwell bowled Ramanandi to reach his 50th T20 international wicket. Wasim Ali top-scored with 32, hitting four boundaries before Maxwell clean bowled him with Oman at 100 for 8. Zampa wrapped up the innings by dismissing Shakeel Ahmed and Shafiq Jan off back-to-back deliveries. Oman were all out for 104 in 16.2 overs.

Marsh and Head Chase Down Target in Under Ten Overs

Marsh scored 14 off the first over and did not slow down from there. He and Head added 93 runs off 49 balls for the opening wicket. Australia posted 73 in the powerplay, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. Marsh reached 53 off 26 balls before the six overs were up.
Head was dismissed for 32 off 19 when he top-edged a pull shot. Shakeel took the catch after shouldering the wicketkeeper aside, and celebrated with a Ronaldo-style ‘siuuu’. It was one of Oman’s few highlights of the day. Inglis then hit Ramanandi over his head to finish the chase. Marsh ended unbeaten on 64 off 33 balls. Australia reached 108 for 1 in 9.4 overs.

Australia Exit with Two Wins from Four Games
Australia finished the group stage with two wins and two losses. There was no visible celebration from the players at any point during the match. Oman ended the tournament without a single point, losing all four of their games by wide margins.
Zampa’s four-wicket haul was his best return of the tournament after going wicketless in the previous two matches. Marsh’s innings was the most fluent batting display Australia produced at this World Cup. However, performance alone was not enough to change the outcome of their campaign.
