England Beat Scotland by 5 Wickets in T20 World Cup 2026 Group C Match at Eden Gardens

England revived their T20 World Cup campaign with a crucial five-wicket victory over Scotland in Kolkata on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The victory has ensured that the side of Harry Brook is still in the running to secure a place in the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

England, playing at the historic Eden Gardens stadium, chased Scotland’s total of 152 with relative ease, reaching 155-5 in only 18.2 overs. Tom Banton, with his unbeaten 63, which anchored the innings of England in the face of initial disappointments, formed the basis of the victory.

Scotland’s Innings: 152 All Out

England captain Harry Brook won the toss and, wisely, chose to take the field first. The move was smart, since his bowlers had been in a very bad form after a miserable performance against the West Indies in the previous week.

Scotland struggled to build momentum, managing only 152 runs before being bowled out. Captain Richie Berrington top-scored with 49 off 32 balls, striking five fours and two sixes. He shared a 71-run partnership with Tom Bruce (24) for the fourth wicket, but this remained Scotland’s only significant stand.

The Scottish batting line was shattered to pieces as it went down by 113-3 and lost the remaining seven wickets with only 39 runs. England bowlers were headed by Jofra Archer, who took 2-24 in his four overs, taking out early wickets in George Munsey and Brandon McMullen. The bowlers of choice were leg-spinner Adil Rashid who bowled 3-36, and Liam Dawson, who bowled 2-34.

England’s Chase: 155-5 in 18.2 Overs

England’s run chase began shakily under the Kolkata floodlights. Phil Salt departed for just two runs off the third ball, caught by Brandon McMullen, and when Jos Buttler fell to Brad Currie, England found themselves at 13-2.

However, Jacob Bethell (32) steadied the ship alongside Banton, breaking free with a six and two fours off McMullen in the fifth over. Banton then took charge, particularly against spinner Mark Watt, smashing three massive sixes in one over that cost 22 runs.

The pair added 66 runs before Bethell’s dismissal, caught at short fine leg off Oliver Davidson’s bowling. Captain Brook followed shortly after, scooping Michael Leask to Brad Wheal to leave England at 86-4.

Despite these wobbles, England remained in control throughout. Banton’s unbeaten 63 guided them home, with Sam Curran adding 28 and Will Jacks finishing the job with 16 off 10 balls, including a six and a four. England crossed the line with 10 balls to spare.

What’s Next

England’s fate in Group C now rests on their final group match against Italy on Monday, February 16, at the same Eden Gardens venue. A victory will secure their passage to the Super Eights stage, keeping their World Cup hopes alive after this important bounce-back performance.
