India Under-19 Show Complete Control in Bulawayo

The Under-19 team of India produced a strong, well-rounded performance against the Under-19 team of New Zealand at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. India won the toss and decided to field first, and it paid off instantly.

RS Ambrish was the top attacker with 4/29 and was assisted by Henil Patel, who claimed 3 wickets. Their disciplined bowling kept applying consistent pressure on New Zealand, and despite attempts by lower-order batters such as Callum Samson, Selwin Sanjay and Jacob Cotter to rebuild, New Zealand could only score 135 in 36.2 overs.

For his match-winning spell of 4⃣/2⃣9⃣, Ambrish R.S. is named the Player of the Match as India U19 win by 7⃣ wickets (DLS method) against New Zealand U19 🙌

Batters of India then chased with confidence. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the captain, Ayush Mhatre, began with a partnership of 76 runs, with Suryavanshi smashing 40 out of 23 balls and Mhatre hitting 53 out of 27 balls, after an early wicket. India achieved the revised target of 130 within 13.3 overs, completing the group stage without a loss, winning three games.

This game showed the full superiority of India in the form of disciplined bowling, smart fielding, and aggressive and intention-driven batting.

New Zealand Under 19’s Brave but Limited Effort

The Under-19 team of New Zealand had some spirit, but it had a hard task to do against the disciplined bowling attack of India. Having gone in to bat, they lost early wickets and went to 21/3 during the powerplay, and this put immediate pressure on the middle order.

Selwin Sanjay and Callum Samson made every effort to stabilize the innings and put together a partnership that contributed much-needed runs.

Samson led the way with 37 not out, Sanjay followed with 28, and Jacob Cotter, thereby demonstrating their ability to perform well under challenging circumstances.

The team was unable to sustain momentum, and their lower order was not able to contribute enough to bring the total to a competitive level, despite the efforts. They were finally all out at 135 in 36.2 overs in a rain-affected match.

New Zealand bowlers attempted to retaliate when India started their chase, using their disciplined lines and field positions, but the Indian batters had their way early on.

In general, it was a combination of bravery and restraint in the play of New Zealand, where there were moments of defiance, but initial failures and absence of meaningful partnerships meant that they could not face the batting strength of India and win the game.

India and New Zealand Gear Up for the Super Six Showdown

By defeating New Zealand by 7 wickets, India Under 19 completed the group phase without defeat, leading Group B. Their convincing performance led them to the Super Six phase, which provided momentum and confidence on the stage to play harder matches. New Zealand also made it through to the Super Six, despite a difficult group campaign.

The Super Six stage will see teams playing two additional games against teams that they did not encounter previously. India will play against Zimbabwe and then against Pakistan, whereas New Zealand will play against Pakistan and a second Super Six team. These are the most important matches because the outcome of these matches will dictate who progresses to the semi-finals.

All matches at this phase will have a bearing on the semi-final results, as only two of the best teams in each group in Super Six will advance to the knockouts. The unbeaten streak by India puts them at an advantage, as New Zealand will strive to become better and remain competitive.

The unbeaten streak of India also finds them an advantage, and New Zealand will be trying to become better and remain in the competition. The ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 promises fans exciting matches.
