Ireland crushed Oman by 96 runs in their Group B match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on February 14, 2026, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Stand-in captain Lorcan Tucker smashed an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls to power Ireland to 235 for 5, the second-highest total in Men’s T20 World Cup history, before bowling Oman out for 139 in 18 overs.
Tucker took over as captain after Paul Stirling was ruled out with a knee ligament injury just one day before the match. His knock became the highest individual score in the 2026 tournament and the best by any Irish batsman in T20 World Cup history. The win kept Ireland mathematically alive in the competition while Oman became the first team eliminated from the tournament.
Ireland Recover From 64 for 4 Collapse
Ireland fell apart early in their innings, slumping to 25 for 2 in the third over and reaching just 47 for 3 after the powerplay. Shakeel Ahmed ripped through the top order and had figures of three wickets for 33 runs. The collapse continued as Ireland crashed to 64 for 4 in the eighth over, looking set to post a below-par total.
Tucker steadied the innings with Gareth Delany, who scored 56 off 30 balls with three fours and four sixes. The pair put on a partnership of 101 runs for the fifth wicket to bring Ireland back into the game.
Tucker had a lucky break when he was on 18 runs, surviving a stumping attempt because Oman wicketkeeper Vinayak Shukla used the wrong glove to break the stumps. The dismissal was ruled invalid under Law 29.2.1.5, which says the keeper must use the hand holding the ball to break the stumps.
That missed chance turned the match completely. Tucker scored 60 of his 94 runs in the final 10 overs, accelerating hard after building his innings carefully. He finished with 10 fours and four sixes, equaling his career best T20 international score of 94 not out that he had made against Austria.

Dockrell Smashes Three Straight Sixes
George Dockrell came in at the death and hammered 35 runs off just nine balls at a strike rate of 388.88. He hit three consecutive sixes on the final three balls of the innings to take Ireland past 235. The last 10 overs brought 156 runs for Ireland, with the final four overs alone producing 86 runs as the bowlers got smashed all over the ground.
Mohammed Nadeem went for 26 runs in one over while Jiten Ramanandi conceded 21 in another as Ireland piled on the runs. The 235 for 5 total was Ireland’s highest ever score in T20 internationals and the second-highest total in Men’s T20 World Cup history, behind only Afghanistan’s 278 against West Indies in 2024. Among the T20 WC teams defending 230-plus totals, Ireland became the sixth team to successfully defend such a score.
Oman Start Well But Collapse Badly
Oman came out swinging in their chase and reached 63 for 2 in the powerplay, which was the highest powerplay score in the tournament at that time. Aamir Kaleem smashed 50 off 29 balls and put on a 73-run partnership for the third wicket with Hammad Mirza, who scored 46 off 37 deliveries. The pair gave Oman hope of pulling off an unlikely chase at the WC venues in Sri Lanka.
But once Kaleem got out in the 11th over with the score on 97 for 3, Oman fell apart completely. They collapsed to 121 for 9 by the end of the 16th over and were eventually bowled out for 139 in the 18th over.
Josh Little took three wickets for 16 runs in his four overs while Matthew Humphreys grabbed two for 27. Ireland dropped three catches during the innings, bringing their tournament total to 10 dropped catches, the most by any team in the 2026 World Cup.
The 96-run victory gave Ireland their first win after losing their opening two matches to Australia and Zimbabwe. They remain mathematically in contention for the Super Eight stage. Oman lost their third straight match and became the first team officially knocked out of the tournament. Tucker’s maiden innings as captain showed his ability to handle pressure and build an innings under difficult circumstances when his team needed him most.
