How the Points System Works

Teams earn two points for a win, one point each for a no result or tie, and zero for a loss. When teams finish level on points, net run rate is the first tiebreaker, followed by head-to-head record, then most wins, then a draw of lots if all else fails. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8 stage.
Teams Qualified for the Super 8
The following eight teams have confirmed their places in the Super 8 stage:
Super 8 Group 1: India, West Indies, South Africa, Zimbabwe
Super 8 Group 2: England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Each team plays three matches in the Super 8. Points are not carried over from the group stage. The top two from each Super 8 group advance to the semi-finals.

Tournament Overview
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 runs from February 7 to March 8 across seven venues in India and Sri Lanka. It is the first edition of the tournament to feature 20 teams, with 55 matches scheduled across 30 days. India are the defending champions, having won the 2024 edition, and entered the tournament as favorites. They have backed that status up by winning all four group matches, including the high-profile clash against Pakistan.
The main talking point from the group stage is Zimbabwe’s performance. They beat both Australia and Sri Lanka to finish top of Group B, which means Australia β one of the most decorated sides in T20 World Cup history β head home without reaching the Super 8.The Super 8 begins today, February 21, with New Zealand facing Pakistan in Colombo.Β
