The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Women’s Under-19 cricket team made history on 29 July 2026. They secured a place in the 2027 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The team defeated hosts Malaysia by just one run in a tense final at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
This victory ensures that the UAE will be one of the 16 teams competing in the global tournament, which Nepal and Bangladesh will co-host. The UAE team remained unbeaten throughout the eight-team regional qualifier to claim the only available qualification spot.

The final match was a dramatic encounter that went right down to the final moment. UAE batted first and set a target. Al Maseera Jahangir was named Player of the Match. She became the UAE’s top scorer with 31 runs from 34 balls.
Furthermore, Jahangir played exceptionally in the second half of the match. She bowled four overs for 12 runs and took two wickets. Disciplined bowling kept the Malaysian batters in check during their chase. Malaysia missed out narrowly, and the UAE celebrated a tight one-run win to earn a place in the World Cup.

UAE’s Unbeaten Journey Through the Tournament
The UAE team started their campaign on 23 July 2026 and remained unbeaten throughout the campaign. The UAE faced Hong Kong China in their opening match. Rain affected the game, but UAE won by 37 runs (DLS Method). They then faced Malaysia in the league stage and won by 39 runs. Their biggest win in the group phase was against Qatar, whom they outclassed by 81 runs.
Also, the team carried this momentum into the knockout rounds. They sealed their spot in the final with a clinical 73-run victory over Bhutan in the semi-finals.

Success in the Asia Cup Qualifier
The World Cup qualification is not the only success the UAE team celebrated in July 2026. Earlier in the month, the team competed in the ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup 2026 qualification in Kuala Lumpur. They were named joint title-winners alongside Thailand after rain prevented the final from being finished.
As a result of this successful tour, the UAE has secured places in both the DP World Women’s U19 Asia Cup and the 2027 T20 World Cup.

Official Reactions to the Historic Achievement
Leaders within the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) expressed great pride in the team’s performance. Subhan Ahmad, the ECB Chief Operating Officer, described the qualification as a monumental achievement. He noted that the board has made big investments in women’s cricket over recent years. Therefore, seeing the team succeed on the international stage is very rewarding for the officials and support staff.
UAE Under-19 Captain Mehak Thakur praised her teammates for their resilience under pressure. She stated that she was incredibly proud of the effort shown in both the Asia Cup and World Cup qualifiers. “We are now looking forward to testing our skills against bigger and better teams in 2027,” said Thakur.

Senior team captain Esha Oza also congratulated the young squad. She described the final win as epic and noted that different players stepped up as match-winners in every game. Oza explained that the UAE had suffered defeats in past qualifiers.
