Interestingly, the game was threatened by the rain, and the UAE were keen on making the jump to win right before rain would be able to intervene.
UAE Women Retire Out Entire Lineup
The UAE women retire their entire lineup in the quest to win the match. This rare instance came in the game against Qatar at the ICC Women’s T20 Worldcup Asia Qualifiers 2025.
UAE was batting first in the game, and they had concerns about the rain that might be around the park. To the surprise of many, the opening batters dominated, and they decided to retire everyone to push for the win.
UAE Openers Set The Tone
As expected, the UAE’s opening batters were in full swing during the game. They started the game with a positive mindset. Playing in the first 16 overs, they didn’t lose a single wicket.

Interestingly, the first wicket partnership was 192 runs, which is pretty good. Captain Esha Oza made 113 runs from 55 balls, while Theertha Satish also smashed 74 runs from 42 balls.
All in all, there was a flurry of boundaries. Captain hit 14 fours and 5 sixes, while another opener hit 11 fours. The Qatar women had no answer to such brutal batting.
Qatar Were Never In The Chase
Even though the Qatar fans were positive about the game, their batters were never in the game. They had hardly any chance to fight up and put any score on the board.
Amidst all the queries of the rain, the Qatar women’s batters were dismissed for a mere 29 runs. They did play 11 overs but could hardly make any impact with the bat in hand.
It was only the opener, Rizpha Bano Emmanuel, who made 20 runs from 29 balls with the help of 2 boundaries. None of the other batters were even able to cross the 6-run mark.
Fair to say that the UAE women’s captain, Oza, was absolutely right to retire all the batters and also play into the weakness of Qatar batters.
UAE Bowlers Were On A Roll
Not only the UAE batters but even the bowlers were on a roll at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Malaysia.
Michelle Botha was the pick of the bowlers, who picked up 3 wickets in 4 overs. Meanwhile, Katie Thompson also had 2 wickets to show.
Interestingly, anyone who bowled on the day picked up 1 wicket each. This showed complete dominance, and the UAE women won the game with 163 runs.
