Who Is Amanjot Kaur_ The MI All-Rounder Who Scored 40 vs Gujarat Giants in WPL 2026

Amanjot Kaur is an Indian cricketer and all-rounder who plays for the Mumbai Indians and the national women’s team. Known for her aggressive batting and handy medium-pace bowling, she has quickly become one of India’s rising stars in women’s cricket.

She recently made headlines in the 2026 Women’s Premier League, playing a match–winning innings against the Gujarat Giants. Coming in when her team was in trouble, Amanjot formed a crucial partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur to steer the Mumbai Indians to victory. Originally a bowling specialist, she has developed into a dynamic all-rounder and was also part of India’s historic 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup-winning squad.

Amanjot Kaur’s Early Life and Family Support

Amanjot Parminder Kaur was born on 25 August 2000 in Mohali, Punjab. Her father, Bhupinder Singh, worked as a carpenter, while her mother, Ranjeet Kaur, managed the household. From a young age, Amanjot showed a natural talent for sports, playing cricket, hockey, football, and handball during school.

Her grandmother, Bhagwanti, played a pivotal role in her early development. Amanjot often played cricket with boys in the local parks, and when neighbours complained or tried to stop her, her grandmother quietly ensured she could continue. She would sit for hours at the park, watching over her granddaughter to make sure nothing interrupted her game.

One memorable incident highlights the family’s dedication: after Amanjot hit several boundaries, the boys told her she couldn’t bat the next day because she didn’t have her own bat. Her father, Bhupinder Singh, immediately hand-carved a wooden bat overnight so she could return to the field the very next day. Small gestures like this, combined with her family’s constant encouragement, helped Amanjot persevere through challenges and fueled her journey to becoming a top all-rounder.

How did Amanjot’s  Domestic Cricket Career Kickstart?

Amanjot Kaur’s domestic cricket career began after Class 10, when she was determined to take her talent to the next level. She initially tried to join a cricket academy in Sector 26, but all the girls’ slots were full. Soon after, she started practicing at the nets in Sector 32, where coach Nagesh Gupta noticed her bowling action and potential. Impressed by her skill and determination, Gupta invited her to train under him.

Under Gupta’s guidance, the young all-rounder transformed from a medium-pacer into a complete all-rounder, developing her batting alongside her bowling. Recognizing the travel challenges she faced, Gupta even bought her a scooter so she could attend training sessions independently.

She started making her mark in domestic cricket by representing Punjab from 2017 to 2019 in the Under-19 and Under-23 categories. When the Union Territory Cricket Association merged with the Chandigarh Cricket Association in August 2019, she switched to Chandigarh, quickly establishing herself as a leading player.

As the Chandigarh captain in 2019, the young cricketer impressed with her consistency and batting skill, scoring 370 runs in the BCCI Senior Women’s One Day Trophy and over 450 runs in the BCCI U-23 tournament. Her performances showcased her ability to handle pressure and lead a team effectively.

When did Amanjot’s International and ODI Debut Occur?

Her consistent domestic form earned Amanjot attention at the international level. She made her international debut on 19 January 2023 at Buffalo Park, East London, South Africa, stepping in for an injured teammate. Rising to the occasion, she scored an unbeaten 41 off 30 balls, earning Player of the Match honours and showing that she could shine on the global stage.

Following this, she made her ODI debut against Bangladesh on 16 July 2023, taking 4/31 and once again winning Player of the Match. Her breakthrough performances established her as a dependable all-rounder for India, paving the way for key contributions in major tournaments like the 2025 Women’s World Cup.

Kaur was acquired by the Mumbai Indians for Rs. 50 lakh in the 2023 WPL auction. In her first season (2023–24), she had limited opportunities, batting lower down the order and bowling only a few overs across 19 matches.

Her breakthrough arrived in WPL 2025, when she scored 34 off 27 balls against RCB* and took 3 wickets for 22 runs, earning Player of the Match. This performance also secured her the Emerging Player of the Season award, proving the franchise’s decision to invest in her talent was justified.

After recovering from injuries, the award-winning cricketer continued her strong form in WPL 2025, scoring 34 off 27 balls for Delhi Capitals against RCB, once again earning Player of the Match honours. She also played a key role for India in the 2025 Women’s World Cup, including a historic catch in the final that helped her team win their first-ever World Cup title.

How Does Amanjot Kaur Contribute as an All-Rounder?

Kaur has become a key all-rounder by balancing her medium-pace bowling with smart, adaptable batting. At the crease, she often starts cautiously, rotating the strike and settling into the game before unleashing powerful shots.

In the WPL 2026 clash against the Gujarat Giants, she came in when the Mumbai Indians were in trouble and built a crucial 72-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet, guiding the team to a strong position. Over time, she has developed power-hitting skills to complement her natural ability to find gaps.

With the ball, the rising star can vary her pace effectively, bowling anywhere from 108–110 kph, with potential to touch 112–115 kph. This versatility allows her team to use her in multiple roles, whether in the powerplay, middle overs, or death overs. In ODIs, she has claimed 19 wickets at an average of 33.74, showing her value in international cricket. Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach, Jhulan Goswami, emphasizes her situational awareness and smart field placement as key aspects of her game.

What Is Amanjot Kaur’s Playing Style and Personality?

Amanjot has a solid batting foundation, keeping her head steady, footwork sharp, and bat straight. Her signature shot is the cover drive, executed with perfect timing and balance. Over the years, she has added power-hitting to her repertoire, transitioning from a touch player to a reliable boundary scorer when her team needs it most.

She began training under coach Nagesh Gupta in 2016 as a bowler. Gupta noticed her natural bat swing during catching practice and gradually developed her batting. This patient mentoring transformed her into a genuine all-rounder, capable of batting in the top seven and bowling 8–10 overs in ODIs.

Amanjot Kaur’s Work Ethic and Dedication

The cricketer is renowned for her discipline, attending regular gym sessions, following a strict diet, and constantly working to improve all aspects of her game. After her 2024 injuries, she focused heavily on both physical rehabilitation and mental conditioning, demonstrating remarkable resilience.

Coach Gupta noted a major change after these challenges: Kaur became more grounded, humble, and focused, showing greater mental strength and determination on and off the field.
