Rashid Khan’s Family Escapes War and Finds Refuge in Pakistan
Nangarhar, Eastern Afghanistan native, Rashid was born as one of 11 children to the Khan Family. Growing up with four sisters and six brothers, Rashid shares a strong bond with his siblings.
They had a modest lifestyle, making a living through only one source of income from the tire business owned by his father in Nangarhar.
However, after a war in Afghanistan, the Khan family was forced to leave behind their only business and flee to Pakistan for a few years.
In a new country, the family began a fresh chapter, and it was there that Rashid’s passion for cricket truly took root. Growing up playing cricket with his brothers, he idolized veteran Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi.
Along with sports, Rashid was excellent in studies. During an interview with AFP, Rashid’s sports teacher said, “During cricket trials, we saw huge talent in Rashid so we got him admission in computer science. He was a good student as well and that was the start of his career in 2013.”
By 2014, he was already a star at Peshawar College when the Afghan cricket team toured Pakistan. Soon, he received a call from the Afghanistan national team and made his ODI debut on 18th October 2015.

While most of Rashid Khan’s brothers’ names remain private, we know through his social media platforms that his elder brother Amir Khan and three other brothers are named Zakiullah and Raza Khan.
The cricketer often shares glimpses of his brotherhood on social media. He once posted a video showing him playing cricket with his brothers, tagging Amir Khalil in the post.

Most notably, the cricketer and three of his brothers, Amir Khalil, Zakiullah, and Raza Khan, got married on the same day, October 3, 2024, in Kabul, marking a significant traditional Pashtun family celebration.
[Tribute] Rashid Khan’s Heartbreaking Loss: Remembering His Parents
Both Rashid’s parents have sadly passed away. His father died in December 2018. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to his father. He wrote “Today I lost the most important person in my life, father-the everlasting. Now I know why you always asked me to be strong because you knew that today I would need the strength to bear your loss. Will be always in my I miss you,”.
Two years later, in June, he lost the greatest blessing of his life, his mother. “You were my home my mother, I had no home but you. I can’t believe you are no more with me you will #MOTHER missed forever. Rest In Peace,” the cricketer wrote.
