Vignesh came in as a substitute player and made a game for Mumbai Indians. His ability to control the ball and deliver right in the biggest of stages shows his temperament.
His first wicket in IPL was the CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Meanwhile, he took the wickets of hard-hitting Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda. Even though CSK defeated MI, Puthur stood out very easily.

Starting his career more as a medium-pace bowler, coach Mohammed Sherif told Vignesh to try out wrist spin, and that changed his life forever. What was about to follow made headlines with ease.
Vignesh has never played any first-class cricket. Not only that, but Vignesh hasn’t been part of any senior-level setup. His only cricketing appearance was in Kerala U-14 and U-19 cricket.
Vignesh played for the likes of St Thomas College, Jolly Rovers Cricket Club etc. Although he only had 2 wickets in 3 matches, his raw talent caught the eye of selectors.
Mumbai Indians had been tracking Vignesh Puthur for a very long time, and his raw talent was provided on the right occasion. MI picked Puthur for a base price of Rs 30 lakhs, and as they say, the rest is history.

In the 3rd game of IPL 2025, the old rivals Mumbai and Chennai were fighting each other. Chennai bowled first in the game and did pretty well. With the help of the spinners, they prevailed in the batting attack of the Mumbai batters.
Mumbai only managed 155 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In the turning track of Chepauk, the score would never be enough.
As Chennai was persuaded with calculative batting, they chased down the total with 5 balls remaining. It was Rachin Ravindra who made the half-century and sealed the deal.
