Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets on May 18. Captain Pat Cummins performed exceptionally at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He took three important wickets to restrict Chennai to 180 runs.
Consequently, SRH chased down the target in 19 overs to reach 181 for 5. This win saw SRH become the third team, after Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, to qualify for the knockouts this season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Seal Playoff Berth with Emphatic Win
Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a win to confirm their position in the top four. They achieved this goal by playing a calm and smart game on a slow Chennai pitch. This is the 8th time that the Orange Army have secured their top 4 appearance in the history of IPL.
Ishan Kishan was the hero of the run chase as he scored a match-winning 70 runs off 47 balls.His innings included seven fours and three sixes. Therefore, the tournament officials named him the Player of the Match for his efforts.
Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen Anchor the Run Chase
The chase did not start perfectly for the visitors because they lost Travis Head very early for just 6 runs. Abhishek Sharma also struggled to find his timing and scored 26 runs from 21 balls. However, Ishan Kishan stayed at the crease and kept the scoreboard moving.
Heinrich Klaasen scored 47 runs from only 26 balls. Together, Kishan and Klaasen added 75 runs for the third wicket. This partnership effectively took the game away from the Chennai Super Kings. The South African cricketer reached a major milestone as he completed 2000 runs in the Tata IPL.
Although Klaasen fell to a fast stumping by Sanju Samson, the damage to CSK was already done. SRH needed only 6 runs to win when Kishan was finally dismissed in the 19th over. Salil Arora and Smaran Ravichandran calmly finished the match with an over to spare.

Pat Cummins Delivers Captain’s Masterclass at Chepauk
While the batters finished the job, Pat Cummins set the foundation during the first half of the match. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat first. Sanju Samson scored 27 runs in just 13 balls. His innings included three boundaries in a row in the second over.
Nevertheless, Pat Cummins took his wicket in the third over. Cummins continued to dominate the game by using slower balls and bouncers. He later dismissed Kartik Sharma for 32 and removed the CSK captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, for 15. Cummins took 3 wickets for 28 in his four overs.
Historical Milestone for Pat Cummins in IPL
Pat Cummins reached a major historical milestone. By taking three wickets, he moved into second place for the most wickets taken by a captain in IPL history.
He now has 41 wickets as a skipper, passing Hardik Pandya, who has 40. Currently, only the legendary Shane Warne is ahead of him with 57 wickets as a captain.

Sunrisers Hyderabad now have 16 points from 13 matches. They are in third place and have a positive net run rate of +0.350. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have slipped to sixth place. They have 12 points and a negative net run rate of -0.016.
Because SRH won, the Gujarat Titans also officially qualified for the playoffs. Both teams have 16 points and cannot be overtaken by the teams at the bottom of the table. Currently, only one playoff spot remains open. Royal Challengers Bengaluru stay at the top of the table with 18 points.
