New Zealand Cricket recalled Eden Carson to the national women’s T20I squad on 1 October 2026 for a three-match series against T20 World Cup champions Australia. Captain Melie Kerr will lead the 15-player team during the tour, which begins on 18 October 2026 at North Sydney Oval in Sydney.
Selectors also recalled Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold alongside batter Bella James to strengthen the line-up. The recalls follow key player retirements and injuries ahead of New Zealand’s first international assignment of the 2026โ27 season. This competitive series against Australia prepares the squad for the inaugural 2027 ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in India.
Carson Completes Long Injury Rehabilitation
Eden Carson returns to international cricket after serious elbow surgery. The injury has kept the Dunedin spinner out of action since December 2025. Carson has 51 international caps in total for all formats of the game, including 37 in T20Is and 24 in ODIs. She took nine wickets in New Zealandโs winning 2024 T20 World Cup campaign previously. Carson joins a formidable spin department alongside captain Melie Kerr, Nensi Patel and Flora Devonshire.
The returning spinner was thrilled to be back in the team environment following her lengthy period of rehab. โโItโs really special to be back in the WHITE FERNS environment,โโ Carson said. The rehab process has been a long and patient one but Iโve been fortunate to have great support around me and Iโm feeling ready to get back out there and contribute.โ

Recalls Fill Vacancies After Star Retirements
Team management have recalled Hannah Rowe, Molly Penfold and Bella James to fill the gaps created by recent international retirements. Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Lea Tahuhu all ended their international career after the T20 World Cup. Devine and Tahuhu are missing, but the pace attack has been strengthened by the addition of Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold.
Rowe comes with a wealth of international experience with 47 T20I caps and 24 wickets to his name. She last represented New Zealand in a T20I in September 2024. Penfold has played 11 T20Is since her debut in 2022, with her last game being against Zimbabwe in March 2026. Penfold has recently been playing for Sandgate Redcliffe Gators in the KFC T20 Max competition in Australia to remain match fit.
โBella James adds some good batting line-up depth with the retirement of Suzie Bates. James has played a single T20I and two ODIs for New Zealand, all against Australia. Over the winter, both Rowe and James toured Sri Lanka with the New Zealand A side to refine their skills.
