Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings by four wickets off the penultimate ball of the match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night. Chasing 164, GT needed 11 off the final over and got home with one ball to spare, completing a third consecutive win while handing PBKS their second straight loss.
Jason Holder was the standout performer of the night, finishing with 4 for 24 to earn the Player of the Match award. Sai Sudharsan top-scored for GT with 57, while Suryansh Shedge hit a brilliant 57 off 29 for PBKS in a losing cause.
PBKS Recover Partially After Horror Start
Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl on a black-soil pitch with a grass covering. The decision paid off almost immediately. Mohammed Siraj removed Priyansh Arya in the second ball of the match and followed it up with the wicket of Cooper Connolly off the very next delivery.
Kagiso Rabada was equally sharp, and his wicket maiden sixth over left PBKS at 35 for 3 at the powerplay.
Holder made it worse, dismissing Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer to leave PBKS at 47 for 5. From there, Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis rescued the innings with a 79-run stand. Shedge was particularly brutal on Manav Suthar, smashing 27 runs in one over on his way to a 24-ball fifty. Stoinis contributed 40 before Holder returned to break the partnership. PBKS finished at 163 for 9, a competitive total but well below what they would have wanted at one stage.
Sai Sudharsan Steadies GT Chase Before Late Drama
GT’s reply was controlled but never comfortable. Shubman Gill departed early for 5, but Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with a composed 57 off 41 balls, playing some clean strokes through the covers and behind point. Jos Buttler chipped in with 26 before falling for a slower-paced knock off 22 balls.
Washington Sundar was quiet initially, scoring 16 off his first 14 deliveries. After Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Holder fell in quick succession during the middle overs, GT suddenly found themselves needing 11 off the last over with two wickets in hand. Arshad Khan hit the opening ball for four to ease the nerves. Then, with three needed off two balls, Washington settled the contest by scooping a full toss from Stoinis over fine leg for six.

Where Both Teams Stand After Sunday’s Result
The win takes Gujarat Titans to 12 points, moving them up to fifth on the IPL 2026 table. Despite the victory, GT hold a negative net run rate, largely because their wins tend to come by narrow margins rather than commanding ones. PBKS, who had gone unbeaten in their first seven games, have now lost back-to-back matches and sit at the top only on points difference.
The Titans next face the Rajasthan Royals on May 9 in Jaipur, while the Kings play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 6 in Hyderabad. GT need to work on their run rate if they are to hold a strong position heading into the business end of the tournament.
