Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 30, chasing down 156 with 25 balls to spare. GT finished on 158 for 6 in 15.5 overs, handing RCB their third loss of IPL 2026.
GT won the toss and chose to field, and their bowlers made the decision look right by bowling RCB out for 155 in 19.2 overs.
Kohli Fires Early, but RCB Lose Their Way in Powerplay
Virat Kohli got RCB off to a good start, hitting it big on Kagiso Rabada in the second over with four straight fours, before scoring another boundary from Mohammed Siraj. In the fourth over, Kohli tried to attack Rabada once again, but the South African cricketer was more brutal this time, and Kohli had to edge to midwicket.
Kohli left the field with 28 off 13. Siraj had dismissed Jacob Bethell (in for the injured Phil Salt) for 5. RCB ended the power play at 59 for 2.
Holder, Rashid, and Arshad Dismantle the Middle Order
Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar steadied things with a 44-run third-wicket stand before Jason Holder caught Patidar at deep square leg in the eighth over. Replays suggested Holder may have grassed the ball while sliding, but TV umpire Abhijit Bhattacharya ruled Patidar out. Several RCB players and staff disagreed openly. Kohli was seen remonstrating with the reserve umpire, and coach Andy Flower was also spotted in conversation with officials near the boundary.
Holder then dismissed Jitesh Sharma, held catches to remove Tim David and Krunal Pandya, and claimed the wicket of Romario Shepherd, five dismissals across the innings in total. Rashid Khan took 2 for 19 in four overs, including Padikkal, who top-scored with 40 off 24 balls. Arshad Khan returned 3 for 22 in 3.2 overs. RCB brought Venkatesh Iyer in as an impact player at 126 for 7, but a 29-run stand between Iyer and Bhuvneshwar Kumar only pushed the total to 155, with the innings ending four balls early.
Gill and Buttler Give GT a Flying Start
Shubman Gill attacked Josh Hazlewood from ball one, hitting three fours and two sixes in a 24-run opening over — the most Hazlewood had ever conceded in a single IPL over. Gill reached 43 off 18 balls before pulling Bhuvneshwar straight to Kohli at cover.
Buttler then took over, reaching 39 off 19 balls before Bhuvneshwar knocked back his leg stump in the eighth over. Bhuvneshwar also removed Sai Sudharsan, finishing with 3 for 28 from four overs. Hazlewood, in contrast, conceded 56 runs across his four overs without taking a wicket.

GT Close Out the Win With Ease
At 111 for 5, Romario Shepherd removed both Shahrukh Khan and Washington Sundar in the 11th over to bring brief pressure on GT. Holder walked in and hit his first ball for six, easing the tension immediately. When he fell for 12 off 10 in the 14th over, GT needed 15 from 37 balls. Rahul Tewatia, brought in as GT’s Impact Player, finished unbeaten on 27 off 17 alongside Rashid Khan to seal the win.
GT moved to fifth on the IPL table with 10 points from nine matches. This win lifted GT’s net run rate from -0.475 to -0.192, which matters as the season heads into its final stretch.
The Titans face the Punjab Kings next at Ahmedabad on May 3. RCB remain second on 12 points despite the defeat, with their next game against Lucknow Super Giants on May 7.
