B Sai Sudharsan and Kagiso Rabada Climb to No. 2 After GT Beat SRH

Kagiso Rabada Purple Cap 2026

Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 56th match of IPL 2026 at Ahmedabad on May 12, and the result moved two GT players up both major individual charts.

B Sai Sudharsan jumped to second on the Orange Cap table, while Kagiso Rabada drew level at the top of the Purple Cap standings before settling at second position.

Sai Sudharsan Pushes Into the Top Two of the Orange Cap Race

B Sai Sudharsan, the IPL 2025 Orange Cap winner, has been rising through the table rapidly. His 61 against SRH — his third half-century on the trot and fourth in five innings — took him right to the top of the run-scorers’ table by the time he was dismissed in the 17th over.

However, the lead did not last long. SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen started his chase innings just seven runs behind Sai Sudharsan’s 501, and crossed it without much fuss. Klaasen scored 14 on the day, but that was enough to stay ahead. He continues to wear the Orange Cap with 508 runs.

Klaasen and Sai Sudharsan are the only two batters to cross 500 runs this season. Behind them, SRH’s Abhishek Sharma sits third with 481 runs after scoring just 6 against GT, followed by KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals on 477, and GT captain Shubman Gill on 467 after managing just 5 in this game.

Sai Sudharsan’s consistency has been the story of GT’s batting this season. Four half-centuries in five innings at a strike rate above 155 puts him firmly in contention for the Orange Cap heading into the back end of the tournament.

Rabada Equals Bhuvneshwar at the Top of the Purple Cap Table

Kagiso Rabada has been devastating in the powerplays this season. He took three wickets in that phase against SRH — dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and R Smaran — and finished with 3 for 28, also winning the Player of the Match award. The performance took him to 21 wickets, the same tally as Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Bhuvneshwar, the Purple Cap winner in 2016 and 2017, still holds the cap based on his superior economy rate, 7.46 compared to Rabada’s 9.15. The RCB pacer was in action against KKR on Tuesday night, with a chance to extend his lead further.

Behind the top two, Anshul Kamboj of CSK has taken 19 wickets, while Prince Yadav of LSG, Rashid Khan of GT, and Eshan Malinga of SRH each have 16. Rashid picked up one wicket against SRH, while Malinga went wicketless in this game.

Prasidh Krishna and Jason Holder Also Make Big Moves

Two other GT bowlers made significant strides up the wicket-takers’ chart on the same evening. Prasidh Krishna, after sitting out for almost a month, returned to pick up two wickets and reach 14 for the season. Just behind him at No. 10 is Jason Holder, who has taken 13 wickets in just six games, a remarkable return for a bowler used sparingly.

GT’s bowling resources have clearly found form at the right time. With playoffs within sight, the combination of Rabada’s powerplay aggression, Rashid’s spin in the middle overs, and Holder’s all-round value gives the Titans a well-balanced attack heading into the final league matches.

The Orange and Purple Cap races remain tight, but GT’s performance on May 12 has put their players right in the mix on both fronts.
