Chennai Super Kings have confirmed that pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after fracturing his right foot during Saturday’s match against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The news came just one day after his IPL debut, leaving CSK without another fast bowler for the rest of the season. The franchise is yet to announce a replacement.
What Happened During the CSK vs MI Match
Ghosh had given CSK an encouraging glimpse of his ability on debut. He took a sharp diving catch at the point boundary off the bowling of Anshul Kamboj to dismiss MI opener Will Jacks on just the eighth ball of the match. When his turn to bowl came, he removed Suryakumar Yadav with a 133kph short ball that drew a top edge to deep point, finishing with figures of 1/24 from three overs.
However, television cameras picked up Ghosh visibly hobbling off the field after completing his third over. CSK confirmed the fracture the next day.
“Ramakrishna Ghosh sustained a fracture to his right foot during the CSK v MI match at Chepauk. He will take no further part in IPL 2026. Get well soon, Rambo,” the club posted on X.
Ghosh, a medium-pace bowling allrounder from Maharashtra, was bought by CSK at the 2025 mega auction for his base price of INR 30 lakh. He had gone unused in his debut season before finally earning his first IPL cap this year. He had previously made national domestic headlines by becoming only the 12th player to claim seven or more wickets in a single Vijay Hazare Trophy match.
CSK’s Injury Concerns Continue to Mount
This is not an isolated setback. Ghosh becomes the fourth player and third fast bowler ruled out of IPL 2026 for CSK, following Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre, and Khaleel Ahmed. On top of that, MS Dhoni has not taken the field in a single game throughout the entire tournament so far, adding to the pressure on the squad.
Despite all of this, CSK registered a convincing eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with an unbeaten 67, his second consecutive half-century. Kartik Sharma supported with an unbeaten 54 as CSK overhauled the target without much trouble.
Gaikwad has publicly backed his side to push for the playoffs despite the disruptions, but managing the bowling attack with so many frontline options gone will be a real challenge going forward.

CSK’s Playoff Push With a Depleted Squad
Chennai Super Kings are currently ranked sixth on the IPL 2026 points table with eight points out of nine matches. Their next match is against the Delhi Capitals on May 5 in Delhi, a match that has added significance considering their position in the standings.
The top half of the table is closely packed, and one outcome can change the ranks considerably. For CSK, the focus at this point is to stabilize the ship using the available resources.
It will be important to find a replacement for Ghosh as soon as possible. Until that point, CSK are in a critical period of the season with a shortage of players in their pace attack and under pressure to hold their ground in a competitive race to the final playoff spots.
