Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 32 runs in match 22 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The match took place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chennai Super Kings scored 192 for 5 in their 20 overs after batting first.
Consequently, Kolkata Knight Riders failed to chase the target and finished at 160 for 7. KKR have not secured a win even after playing five matches in this IPL 2026 season. However, CSK secured their second consecutive victory, and they now stand in 8th position with 4 points on the table.
Chennai Super Kings Dominate at Chepauk
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings for Chennai. Samson immediately attacked the bowlers by hitting three boundaries in the first over against Vaibhav Arora.
Although Gaikwad lost his wicket for just 7 runs, young batter Ayush Mhatre took the bat next. Mhatre, the India Under-19 skipper, hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in the fourth over against Cameron Green.
Furthermore, Mhatre made 38 runs in just 17 balls and maintained a strike rate of 223.53. Consequently, Chennai Super Kings reached 72 for 2 by the end of the six-over powerplay. Sanju Samson continued the momentum by scoring 48 runs off 32 balls. He hit four boundaries and three sixes during his innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders Batting Nightmare
Kolkata Knight Riders made some changes from their previous lineup and sent Sunil Narine to open the chase with Finn Allen. Nevertheless, the move failed as Allen fell for just 1 run in the second over to Anshul Kamboj. Sunil Narine scored 24 runs off 17 balls, but Khaleel Ahmed bowled him out in the power play. Consequently, Kolkata Knight Riders managed only 36 for 2 during their first six overs.
Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi shared a 50-run partnership for the third wicket to give the visitors hope. Rahane scored 28 runs, and Raghuvanshi scored 27 runs. Akeal Hosein first took the wicket of Raghuvanshi to break the partnership.
Then, Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad struck twice in the 11th over. He removed Rahane and then clean-bowled Cameron Green on consecutive deliveries. Furthermore, Noor Ahmad dismissed the dangerous Rinku Singh for just 6 runs. Kolkata struggled from 79 for 2 to 90 for 6. Noor Ahmad finished his four-over spell with 3 wickets for 21 runs.
Rovman Powell and Ramandeep Singh shared a 63-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Ramandeep Singh scored 35 runs off 23 balls, including 4 boundaries and a six. Powell made 31 runs from 22 balls. However, the required run rate became too high for the batters to manage. Anshul Kamboj finished with 2 wickets for 32 runs, while Khaleel Ahmed and Akeal Hosein took one wicket each. Consequently, Kolkata Knight Riders finished their 20 overs at 160 for 7, handing Chennai a 32-run victory.
Kolkata Knight Riders Face Historic Slump
This defeat marks the worst start for the Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL history. They have now played five matches without a single win. Their only point in the standings comes from a washed-out match against the Punjab Kings. Captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed his disappointment and hinted at potential changes to the team combination for future games.
Furthermore, Kolkata’s expensive players, such as Cameron Green, have struggled to perform. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings secured eighth spot in the points table with 4 points from five matches.
