Gujarat Titans handed Sunrisers Hyderabad their heaviest defeat of the season on May 12 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. GT won by 82 runs after bowling SRH out for 86 while chasing 169. It is also GT’s biggest win in IPL history, surpassing their 77-run win over Rajasthan Royals just days earlier. The result pushed GT to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 16 points from 12 matches.
SRH won the toss and chose to field, but the decision backfired badly by the end of the night.
Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar Rescue GT After Shaky Start
Gujarat Titans found themselves in early trouble, reduced to 34 for 2 at the end of the powerplay β their lowest powerplay score of the season. Praful Hinge, brought in as an extra pace option, dismissed Shubman Gill for 5 and Jos Buttler for 7 in quick succession.
From that difficult position, Sai Sudharsan and Nishant Sindhu steadied the innings.
Sudharsan was particularly measured, picking his scoring opportunities carefully and rotating strike on a surface that was not easy to bat on. Sindhu contributed 22 off 14 before Pat Cummins removed him in the 10th over.
Sudharsan went on to make 61 off 44 balls, his sixth half-century of the season, before falling to Sakib Hussain in the 17th over attempting a scoop.
Washington Sundar then took charge of the final overs in a way that changed the shape of the innings completely. He scored 50 off just 33 balls, targeting Eshan Malinga particularly hard in the 19th over. Malinga conceded 46 runs in his four overs. Jason Holder finished unbeaten on 11 to help GT post 168 for 5 in 20 overs.
Rabada and Siraj Destroy SRH Top Order in Powerplay
SRH’s chase never got going. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj bowled the entire powerplay between them for the fifth consecutive match. By the time the powerplay ended, SRH had lost four wickets for just 34 runs.
Siraj removed Travis Head for a first-ball duck in the very first over. Rabada then dismissed Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Ravichandran Smaran in clinical fashion β hitting a hard length consistently around 150kph and slanting deliveries away from the left-handers. Rabada finished with 3 for 28, earning the Player of the Match award.
Heinrich Klaasen and Salil Arora briefly threatened to build something in the middle overs, but Jason Holder ended that hope quickly. Holder took 3 for 20, removing Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivang Kumar in the space of his four overs. Impact player Prasidh Krishna chipped in with 2 for 23. SRH were bowled out for 86 in just 14.5 overs.
Pat Cummins top-scored for SRH with a late 19 off 9 balls but it was far too little by then.

GT Sit Comfortably at the Top of IPL 2026 Points Table
Gujarat Titans now have 16 points from 12 games with a net run rate of +0.551. Royal Challengers Bengaluru sit second with 14 points from 11 games, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in third, also on 14 points but from 12 games.
GT’s next match is against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 16. They also have a home game against Chennai Super Kings on May 21 before the league stage concludes on May 24.
SRH, despite the heavy defeat, remain in third place and still have two matches left β against CSK on May 18 and RCB on May 22 β to secure their playoff position.
Cummins was fined INR 12 lakh for SRH’s slow over-rate, their first such offence of the season.
