Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in the 52nd match of IPL 2026 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 9. The result pushed GT to second place in the points table with 14 points after their four wins in a row, while RR slipped further down to fifth, losing their third match in four games.
Shubman Gill scored 84 off 44 balls, Sai Sudharsan contributed 55 off 36, and Rashid Khan finished with 4 for 33. Those three performances, more than anything else, decided the match.
Gill and Sai Sudharsan Set the Platform With a 118-Run Opening Stand
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first, but they were made to pay almost immediately. Jofra Archer’s opening over alone produced nine extras across 11 deliveries, the longest opening over in IPL history, and GT’s openers took full advantage without taking unnecessary risks.
Gill and Sai Sudharsan played their shots straight down the ground, rotating strike and waiting for the bad ball. By the end of the power play, GT were 82 for 0. Both openers reached their fifties off 30 balls each.
The 118-run opening partnership was broken when Yash Raj Punja had Sai Sudharsan caught at long-on for 55. Jadeja then got Buttler for 13, and the middle overs slowed GT down considerably. But Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 37 off 20 and Rahul Tewatia’s rapid 14 off just 4 balls, which included back-to-back sixes off the final over, lifted the total to 229 for 4.
Brijesh Sharma was RR’s best bowler with 2 for 47, while Jadeja and Punja were economical in the middle. But the total was always going to be difficult to chase.

Rashid Khan Dismantles the Rajasthan Royals Chase
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave RR the kind of start they needed. He hit Mohammed Siraj for three fours before Siraj responded with a yorker that caught the inside edge onto the foot and then a sharp bouncer that went straight to square leg. Sooryavanshi walked back for 36 off 16 balls.
Dhruv Jurel came in and looked dangerous, scoring 24 off just 10 deliveries. But Rashid Khan cleaned him up with a delivery that jagged past an attempted slog. That was the turning point.
Rashid bowled more leg-breaks than googlies, an unusual approach for him, and kept RR’s batters guessing throughout. Donovan Ferreira was bowled through the gate. Shubham Dubey missed a slog to see his stumps disturbed. Jadeja, who had threatened briefly with 38 off 25, was trapped lbw as the ball spun into his pads. Rashid picked up four wickets for 33 runs in four overs.
Jason Holder finished the job with 3 for 12 in 2.3 overs, mopping up the lower order. Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 152 in 16.3 overs.

GT Continue Their Late IPL 2026 Surge With Eyes on the Top Four
Four consecutive wins have completely changed GT’s IPL 2026 story. They now sit second in the Tata IPL 2026 points table, a position that looked unlikely just weeks ago. Their batting unit and bowling unit have been consistent throughout this run.
Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, are now in a difficult position. They will next play Delhi Capitals on May 17. With Riyan Parag injured and form hard to come by, their top-four hopes are under real pressure.
Gujarat Titans face their next fixture with momentum fully on their side. They will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 12.
