IPL 2026: DC Beat LSG by 6 Wickets at Lucknow

Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants by a margin of six wickets on April 1 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Chasing 142, DC reached its goal in 17.1 overs with 17 balls to spare, becoming the first visiting team to win a game in the season.

Sameer Rizvi, a young batter who came in as an Impact Player substitute and went out of the field with a 70 not out on 47 balls, was named Player of the Match.

How DC Bowlers Set the Game Up First

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to field. The decision played in their favor within no time. LSG’s batting never really got going. The third over saw Captain Rishabh Pant run out after a deflection off the hand of Mukesh Kumar changed what could have been a caught and bowled into an unfortunate dismissal.

Axar Patel bowled Aiden Markram. Ayush Badoni was dismissed for a duck off 3 balls, caught behind by KL Rahul off T Natarajan.

LSG were already feeling the pressure by the time Nicholas Pooran entered. Then Lungi Ngidi made the most significant piece of the innings, a dipping slower ball which bowled Pooran through the gate before he could do him any harm. The wicket itself likely saved DC 20 to 30 runs.

The most fluent LSG batter, Mitchell Marsh, hit 35 of the 28 balls and was sent off by Kuldeep Yadav in the 10th over. Abdul Samad scored the most with 36 out of 25, holding the longest partnership with Impact Player Shahbaz Ahmed.

But LSG were bowled out in 18.4 overs at 141 with eight balls remaining. Ngidi finished off with 3/27, Natarajan 3/29, and Kuldeep Yadav had 2/31.

DC Chase Falls Apart Early, Then Rizvi Walks In

Delhi Capitals did not have a smooth start to the chase.

KL Rahul fell for a golden duck. He was dismissed off the very first ball of the chase, caught by Mohsin Khan off Mohammed Shami.

Pathum Nissanka only made one run and was packed by Prince Yadav. Prince struck Captain Axar Patel down the very next legal delivery. Nitish Rana fell for 15. DC were 26 for 4; suddenly, that 142 seemed to be far larger than it should be.

It is at that point that the match changed. Sameer Rizvi replaced T Natarajan as Impact Player of DC at the 3.3-over mark. Tristan Stubbs joined him on the other side.

Rizvi did not start on the right foot. He took 10 balls to beat out of the mark, and was only sitting on 5 off 13 when he achieved his first positive stroke, a ramped six off an Anrich Nortje bouncer.

After that point, the innings leveled. Both Rizvi and Stubbs had the knowledge that they did not have to go big right away. The real motion was being brought out of the surface by pacers of LSG Shami, Mohsin Khan, Prince Yadav, and both batters respected it.

The switch took place when LSG had to use spin. They had already lost their original spinner, Digvesh Rathi, to the impact player substitution, Shahbaz Ahmed. When Shahbaz bowled his only over in the 10th, Rizvi hit three balls to the boundary, collecting 16 runs. The game opened up from there.

Aiden Markram, too, was not spared as he walked in. He was broken down by Rizvi, who launched a six and then hacked him for four.

The 5th-wicket partnership by Rizvi and Stubbs accrued 119 runs on 68 balls, on which DC built the chase. Rizvi made 70 not out using 47 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Stubbs contributed 39 not out off 32.

The six that won the match was on the first ball of the 18 th over, a long-hop by Abdul Samad into deep midwicket, which was pulled by Rizvi. Match over.

LSG Pacers Impressed But Couldn’t Defend a Low Total

Despite the defeat, LSG’s fast bowlers gave a strong account of themselves, making DC work hard for every run in the powerplay and beyond. The ball was flashing with the three Indian speedsters, Shami, Mohsin, and Prince Yadav. The pitch played differently across both innings. The red-soil pitch provided swing and seam through the first ten overs of the chase by DC.

The issue, as Rishabh Pant admitted later on, was that 141 was just too little. He also cited 20 extras given away in the innings of DC as an important factor.

On the bowling side of DC, Anrich Nortje got down 4 overs at 39 without a wicket, the only expensive spell of the night for the visiting side.

What’s Next

With two points in the belt now, the Delhi Capitals do not have much time to celebrate. Their second match will be with the Mumbai Indians on April 4 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Right after that, DC will host the Gujarat Titans on April 8.

For Lucknow Super Giants, the road ahead is no easier. They face the Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on April 15, a tough assignment on the road.
