Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi Tear Apart MI Bowling in the Powerplay
The match was cut to 11 overs per side. RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wasted no time. They put on 80 runs in just five overs. Jaiswal attacked Deepak Chahar in the very first over, hitting four boundaries and a six.
Sooryavanshi then faced Jasprit Bumrah for the first time in his career and smashed him for 13 runs off 5 balls, including two sixes. By the end of the power play, RR were already 59 for 0.
Jaiswal’s Unbeaten 77 Sets Up Commanding Total
Sooryavanshi was out for 39 off 14 balls, caught by Tilak Varma off Shardul Thakur. Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag also fell cheaply to AM Ghazanfar’s spin. But Jaiswal never stopped. He finished unbeaten on 77 off 32 balls, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 240.62. RR posted 150 for 3 in their 11 overs. Ghazanfar was MI’s best bowler, taking 2 for 21.
MI Collapse in the Powerplay Chase
Chasing 151, the Mumbai Indians crumbled early. They lost three wickets inside the 3.2-over powerplay, finishing it at just 29 for 3. Ryan Rickelton fell to Jofra Archer, Suryakumar Yadav to Nandre Burger, and Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw by Sandeep Sharma, his sixth lbw dismissal in 13 IPL innings this season.
Bishnoi and Sandeep Shut the Door on MI
Ravi Bishnoi, brought in as an impact substitute, removed both Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma in his first over, reducing MI to 46 for 5. Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford tried a recovery partnership of 47 in 17 balls, but Sandeep ended Rutherford’s innings with a sharp catch at short third. MI finished at 123 for 9.

Whatβs Next
Rajasthan Royals will look to keep their unbeaten run going when they host Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 16 on April 10 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. A fourth straight win would further cement their position at the top of the table.Β
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have little time to dwell on this defeat. They face the Punjab Kings in Match 24 on April 16 in Mumbai. With two losses in a row, Hardik Pandya’s side will need to regroup quickly, fix their powerplay bowling, and rediscover the form that got them their opening win of the season.
Both teams still have plenty of matches ahead, but the contrasting momentum heading into their next games could not be more different.
