Lucknow Super Giants opened their IPL 2026 account with a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on April 5. Chasing 157, they got home off the penultimate ball, finishing at 160 for 5. It was tight, scrappy, and nervy, but they won.

Mohammed Shami Wrecks SRH Early
Pant chose to field, and Shami made it count straight away. Bowling against his former team, he had Abhishek Sharma caught at short third for a duck with an offcutter, then got Travis Head with another slower ball next over.
Prince Yadav followed up by bowling Ishan Kishan through the gate. Liam Livingstone fell soon after to Digvesh Rathi. SRH were 26 for 4 inside eight overs. Shami finished with 2 for 9 off four overs, one of the most economical spells of the season so far.
Klaasen and Reddy Rescue SRH With Record Stand
For the second consecutive game, Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy had to dig SRH out of a hole. They put on 116 in 63 balls for the fifth wicket, a new SRH record, breaking the 82 they themselves had set just one match earlier. Klaasen made 62 off 41, Reddy blazed 56 off 33. SRH were 123 for 4 after 16 overs and looking at 170-plus.
Avesh Khan and Manimaran Siddharth pulled things back hard in the death, conceding just 33 in the last four overs while taking five wickets. SRH finished at 156 for 9.
LSG Wobble Before Pant Takes Over
Markram gave LSG a flying start with 45 off 27 balls, taking them to 53 for 1 at the powerplay. After he went, LSG lost their way. Badoni was stumped, Pooran run out off a mix-up, and the asking rate kept creeping up.
With 9 needed off the final over from Unadkat, Pant, who had looked scratchy for most of his innings, hit the first two balls for four to level the scores. Two dots followed. Off the fifth ball, he lofted one over mid-off to seal it. Pant finished unbeaten on 68 off 50 balls. Shami took the Player of the Match award.

What’s Next
This win gives LSG much-needed momentum. LSG face KKR at Eden Gardens on April 9 before hosting Gujarat Titans on April 13.
SRH travel to Mullanpur to play the Punjab Kings on April 11. SRH, meanwhile, need their top order to contribute; Klaasen and Reddy cannot keep bailing them out from 26 for 4 every single game.
