Mumbai Indians signed Mahipal Lomror and Ruchit Ahir on 23 May 2026 to join their squad for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. These two cricketers join the team as injury replacements for Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa.
The five-time champions confirmed these changes just before their final league match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium. Both De Kock and Bawa cannot play any more matches this year because of serious injuries.
Mahipal Lomror Joins Mumbai Indians for INR 50 Lakh
Mumbai Indians chose Mahipal Lomror to replace the South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. Lomror is a 26-year-old all-rounder from Rajasthan who brings a lot of experience to the team. He bats in the middle order and bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin. The franchise paid INR 50 lakh to bring him into the team for the final part of the tournament.
Lomror is a well-known name in the IPL. He started his career in 2018 and has played 40 matches in the tournament so far. During his time in the league, he has scored 527 runs and taken one wicket. He has also been part of several different teams before joining Mumbai Indians.
Previous Teams and Career Highlights for Lomror
Lomror previously played matches for the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Additionally, he spent time in the squads of the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. However, he did not get the chance to play a match for those two teams. His experience in the middle order will help Mumbai Indians find stability in their batting line-up.
Furthermore, Lomror is known for his ability to handle pressure. He often scores quickly and provides a useful bowling option when the team needs a breakthrough. Mumbai Indians hope his left-handed batting will add variety to their squad during the final league game.

Ruchit Ahir Signed as Replacement for Raj Angad Bawa
Mumbai Indians also signed Ruchit Ahir to replace Raj Angad Bawa for INR 30 lakh. Ahir is a 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter who plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket. This signing marks his first ever opportunity to be part of an IPL squad.
The Mumbai Indians coaching staff watched Ahir very closely during the pre-season. He played for the Reliance team in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2026. His strong performances in that tournament convinced the team management to pick him when Bawa got injured.

Domestic Record and Stats for Ruchit Ahir
Ahir has a very impressive record in domestic cricket. He has played 16 List A matches and 12 T20 matches for Saurashtra. In his 12 T20 innings, he has scored 333 runs. Meanwhile, he maintains a high average of 41.62 and an excellent strike rate of 169.03.
He can score runs at a quick rate, making him a dangerous player in the T20 format. Mumbai Indians believe he may add fresh energy to the squad. He offers the team an extra option behind the stumps as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Why Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa are Missing
Injury forced both Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa out of the tournament. De Kock suffered a tendon injury in his left wrist on 29 April 2026. This happened just before Mumbai Indians played against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before his injury, the South African star played only three matches this season. However, he did score an unbeaten hundred in the first match against Punjab Kings.
Meanwhile, Raj Angad Bawa suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb. He sustained this injury during a match against the Punjab Kings on 14 May 2026. Bawa also appeared in only three games this term. During those matches, he managed to take two wickets. Both players leave a gap in the team that the new signings must now fill.
Mumbai Indians Performance in IPL 2026
Mumbai Indians have won only four of their 13 matches so far. Because of these results, they are already out of the race for the playoffs. Currently, they sit in ninth place on the points table with only eight points.
The Mumbai Indians face the Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Mumbai have no chance for qualification, but Rajasthan Royals need a victory to secure their spot in the playoffs. They currently stand in fourth place on the table with 14 points.
