Prithvi Shaw comeback story wasn’t a straightforward homecoming. He had been released by Delhi before the 2025 season due to poor form and off-field issues, and he found no bidders in that year’s auction. 

As a matter of fact, Prithvi’s name came up not once but twice with no takers. Despite a modest base price of ₹75 lakh, franchises initially passed on him. 

Shaw reportedly posted a short, emotional message in his Instagram Stories, “It’s OK.” The message had a ‘Broken Heart’ emoji and a ‘Hugging Face’ emoji. Later, he deleted it.

However, in the final accelerated round – almost as if a script had a last-minute twist – Delhi Capitals finally raised the paddle and re-signed Prithvi Shaw for ₹75 lakh. 

The Prithvi Shaw ₹75 lakh deal is a steep drop from the ₹7.5 crore Delhi had once retained him for, highlighting how far his stock had fallen. Yet, it also underscores what a potential steal this could be if he reignites his talent. 

Shaw himself was overjoyed, he reposted DC’s Instagram post, featuring a photo of DC captain Axar Patel, with the caption, “Welcome back, Prithvi Shaw.”

He wrote an emotional Instagram story saying “Back to my family,” celebrating the return to his Delhi teammates. 

Prithvi Shaw IPL Career Stats

Prithvi Shaw, bought for ₹1.2 crore, made his IPL debut on April 23, 2018, for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He opened the batting at age 18 years and 165 days, becoming the youngest opener in IPL history, and scored 22 runs off 10 balls.

In seven seasons with Delhi, he played 79 matches and scored 1,892 runs at an average of about 23.5, with 14 half-centuries (highest score of 99).

At his best, Shaw was a game-changer – notably, his 2021 season yielded 479 runs (including hitting six fours in an over, a rare feat). However, his form dipped sharply later; for instance, he managed only 106 runs in 8 matches during 2023. This inconsistency contributed to his exit from the team.

Prithvi Shaw Recent Domestic Form

Prithvi Shaw began his domestic career with Mumbai in first-class cricket during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy semi-finals on January 1, 2017, scoring a century in the second innings to earn Man of the Match. He made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 25, 2017, and continued with standout performances, including multiple centuries in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy.

He played for Mumbai until 2024 and after being dropped from Mumbai’s squad for fitness and disciplinary issues, Shaw switched to play for Maharashtra in 2025. The change of scene seemed to help. In the Ranji Trophy (first-class) circuit, Shaw piled up 470 runs for Maharashtra, including a blazing 200 runs off just 72 balls in one innings against Chandigarh, an innings that had cricket circles buzzing.
