Rajasthan Royals knocked Sunrisers Hyderabad out of IPL 2026 with a dominant 47-run win in the Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on May 27. RR posted 243/8 in 20 overs and then bowled SRH out for 196 in 19.2 overs. With this result, Rajasthan Royals advance to Qualifier 2, where they will face Gujarat Titans.
Sooryavanshi’s 97 off 29 Balls Sets the Platform
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, was the story of the night. Opening the batting, he produced one of the most destructive innings seen in IPL history — 97 runs off just 29 balls, including 12 sixes and 5 fours, at a strike rate of 334.48. He was named Player of the Match.
SRH captain Pat Cummins tried keeping things full and straight in the powerplay, stationing fielders in front of square on the leg side and mixing in the occasional short ball. None of it worked. Sooryavanshi punished anything that missed its length, clearing the boundary with ease on both sides of the wicket. He also handled slower balls well, driving over mid-off and extra-cover with clean timing.
His opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal produced 125 runs. Jaiswal faced the same number of balls as Sooryavanshi — 29 — but could only manage 29 runs, which showed just how one-sided the partnership was in terms of output. Sooryavanshi fell in the eighth over, caught at deep third trying an uppercut off Praful Hinge. He was three runs short of what would have been the fastest IPL century, breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 30 balls.
Jurel Fires, But RR Lose Their Way Late
After Sooryavanshi’s departure, Dhruv Jurel kept the momentum going with a 21-ball fifty — his sixth of the season. Jurel looked sharp throughout, playing a scooped four off Cummins and an uppercut six off Hinge to bring up the milestone. He scored 50 off 21 balls before being dismissed.
Riyan Parag added a quick 26 off 12 balls, and at one stage a total of 250 looked well within reach. However, RR lost five wickets in the final five overs and managed only 36 runs in that stretch. Donovan Ferreira and Nandre Burger were both run out, and the innings closed at 243/8 — a good total, but below what it could have been.

Archer Dismantles SRH’s Top Order in the Powerplay
Chasing 244, SRH started aggressively. Ishan Kishan scored 33 off just 11 balls, and a second-wicket stand of 51 between Kishan and Travis Head off only 15 balls threatened to make this a contest. Jofra Archer put a stop to that. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma off the second ball of the innings, then got rid of both Kishan and Head to finish with 3/58 from four overs.
SRH were 57/4 at the end of the powerplay, and despite a 50-run stand between Nitish Kumar Reddy (38) and Salil Arora (35) in the middle overs, the required run rate kept climbing beyond reach. Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets and Sushant Mishra took two more as SRH were bowled out for 196 in the penultimate over.
Rajasthan Royals now face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday, with a place in the IPL 2026 Final at stake.
