On June 4, RCB had a victory parade scheduled in Bengaluru, but all of it turned chaotic, and the overall event took the lives of 11 people, leaving several badly injured. We will cover everything in the blog with details.
RCB Wins IPL After 18 Years
Virat Kohli, one of the biggest faces in Indian cricket, had never won the IPL, and all the stars had aligned well this time around.
RCB won the IPL finals by beating Punjab Kings. RCB were crowned champions by a minimum of 6 runs. It was a celebration all around the country and also amongst the millions of RCB fans all around the globe. A big occasion for sure.
How Did The Stampede Happen?
RCB’s marketing and revenue division planned an open bus parade after the victory, but the Karnataka government didn’t allow it to happen. Thus, the division decided to appear in the stadium and celebrate the title win with the fans without any prior management for such a massive flow of fans.
As the winning team was part of the celebration, hundreds of thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium. They started to push the barriers to get a glimpse of their favorite cricketers.
The crowd was uncontrollable in a stadium that can only fit 35,000, around 200,000 to 300,000 pushed in to welcome the winning team and soon panic set in. With such a massive crowd running haywire, RCB’s historic win had turned into a mass death of 11 people.

Most of the deceased were young students who had suffocated in the crowd, running and pushing each other.
Reasons For Multiple Deaths and Stampede
As RCB won the title, the whole of Bengaluru didn’t sleep that night. There were multiple reasons why the stampede occurred and so many people lost their lives.
According to the police authority, the police force had worked all night, and to be immediately prepared the next morning to manage the crowd was tiring. Likewise, the gate to allow entry into the stadium wasn’t fixed.
Fans were running from one gate to another, which caused confusion and made them restless and started breaking the barricade to get in.
In the end, the stampede occurred. Meanwhile, there were no emergency measures like regulated parking or ambulances. Had there been proper management, so many lives wouldn’t have been lost.
FIR registered against the management company
Since the lives have been lost, due to the stampede there have been FIR registered against the management company.
FIRs have been registered against RCB as Accused 1, DNA Entertainment as Accused 2 and KSCA Administrative Committee as Accused 3.

CID will take over the inquiry and the case and further investigation will be going forward. “The complaint will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation under an already registered case.”
Possible ban of RCB from next IPL
There is a lot of speculation whether RCB will be banned from the IPL or not. IPL being one of the multi billion dollar industries need to take a calculated step if they are thinking of RCB ban.
With the fanbase and the following RCB has at the moment, it will be hard for the BCCI to ban the RCB team. As the investigation goes on only the final verdict will tell whether there will be bans or not.
In the past though, IPL teams like Rajasthan and Chennai have been banned for fixing allegations. This time though real lives have been lost and the final verdict will be key.
What action is the BCCI taking for the stampede?
BCCI has made it clear that they won’t take this stampede lightly. The loss of lives have made things even more complicated.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saika has stated that the BCCI doesn’t have the control over franchise celebrations. But he confirms BCCI will be strict with the future title winning celebrations. They won’t be the silent spectator all the time.
In the recent news, RCB marketing head, Nikhil Sosale has been arrested along with Sunil Mathew (director and vice president), Kiran Kumar (manager) and Sumanth (ticketing official) from DNA entertainment.
Until and unless the final verdict comes through BCCI is not authorised to take any action.
