Rohit Sharma has made IPL history once again by becoming the first Indian cricketer to win 20 Player of the Match (POTM) awards.
This incredible achievement happened during Mumbai Indians’ big win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025.
Rohit played a key role in MI’s victory, scoring an unbeaten 76 runs off 45 balls, helping his team successfully chase down CSK’s target of 177 runs.
Rohit’s match-winning knock ended his batting struggles and gave his team a crucial win. The stylish opener played with the elegance that has made him famous in cricket.
Coming into the game as an impact substitute, he played with a mix of smart aggression, hitting four fours and six sixes, and led MI to chase the target easily.
Mumbai Indians won easily by nine wickets with more than four overs remaining.
Rohit Sharma set the stage for the victory by creating a 64-run partnership with Ryan Rickelton (24 off 19 balls) for the opening wicket.
However, Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav’s second-wicket partnership proved decisive. The two combined for a match-winning 114 runs, with Yadav scoring 68* off just 30 balls.
While MI’s batsmen stole the show, their bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive figures of 2/25, successfully restricted CSK to 176/5.
CSK’s leading scores, Shivam Dube (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (54) gave their all, but MI’s bowlers held them under control.
This win was MI’s third in a row in IPL 2025, moving them up to sixth in the points table. The team’s strong recovery after a slow start is a positive sign as they aim for a playoff spot.
