Sunrisers Hyderabad have confirmed that England seamer Brydon Carse will not feature in IPL 2026 after being ruled out due to a hand injury. The announcement came a day after SRH recorded a dominant 57-run victory over Rajasthan Royals, casting a shadow over what was otherwise an encouraging evening for the franchise.
Carse sustained the injury while batting during a training session ahead of SRH’s opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite going through a recovery programme, he was unable to return to full fitness. The team management eventually decided to rule him out for the rest of the season to prevent any further setbacks.
SRH Name Dilshan Madushanka as Replacement
To cover the gap left by Carse, SRH have brought in Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka for INR 75 lakh. The IPL confirmed the signing in an official statement on Tuesday.
“Sunrisers Hyderabad have picked Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the remainder of the TATA IPL 2026. Carse has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL season due to an injury,” the board stated.
Madushanka has represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 ODIs and 19 T20Is, picking up 70 international wickets in total. Although he is yet to play a single IPL match, he is no stranger to the tournament. Mumbai Indians had purchased him for Rs 4.6 crore during the 2024 auction, but a hamstring injury cut short his involvement before he could make his debut.
The 25-year-old is primarily known for his ability to swing the new ball in the powerplay overs, a skill that could prove valuable for SRH given the batting-heavy conditions the IPL typically produces.
Bowling Unit Dealing With Multiple Absences
Carse’s exit adds further pressure on a bowling unit already stretched thin. Captain Pat Cummins has been sidelined with a back injury throughout the early part of the season, though he is expected to return around April 17. His absence has left a significant experience gap at the top of the attack.
In the meantime, SRH have turned to younger options. Debutants Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain delivered a standout performance against Rajasthan Royals on Monday, each taking four wickets as RR were bowled out for 159 while chasing 217. That result demonstrated that the team does have capable alternatives, even if the reliance on inexperienced bowlers carries some risk over a long tournament.
Experienced campaigners Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat continue to provide support, and Madushanka’s addition gives the side another frontline option going forward.

Where SRH Stand in IPL 2026
SRH currently sit fourth on the points table with two wins and three losses. Stand-in captain Ishan Kishan has steadied the ship admirably in Cummins’ absence, and the batting unit has been the team’s standout feature this season. SRH have crossed the 200-run mark in four of their five matches, with Heinrich Klaasen producing several explosive contributions.
Their next fixture is a home clash against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
