Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest and fastest cricketer to reach 500 IPL runs when Rajasthan Royals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on 22 April 2026. He did it in only 227 deliveries, 33 short of the previous record of 250 by Australiaβs Glenn Maxwell.
What is more impressive is that Sooryavanshi had scored 8 out of 11 balls in that match when he was dismissed by Mohsin Khan, who also bowled the first maiden over to him in IPL cricket. The record was despite the lean outing.
Youngest Ever to the Milestone
Sooryavanshi is the youngest player in the history of IPL to have 500 runs at the age of 15 years and 26 days. He surpassed Prithvi Shaw, who had reached the mark at the age of 19 years and 164 days. Sanju Samson, the former Rajasthan Royals captain who achieved the milestone at the age of 19 years and 195 days, falls to the third position on that list.
This is a record that has not been matched by any other player at such an age. Sooryavanshi has now amassed 506 IPL runs in 14 matches with an average of 36.14 and a strike rate of over 213.
The Numbers Behind the Record
Sooryavanshi is ranked fourth in the IPL 2026 Orange Cap table with 254 runs in seven games with a strike rate of 220.86, the highest among the top five run-scorers in this season. Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad tops the list with 323 runs, but his strike rate of 215.33 remains slightly lower than that of Sooryavanshi.

The teenager has struck two fifties in IPL 2026, both in 15 balls apiece, making them tied with the third-fastest in the history of the league. He hit a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans last season, the quickest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-quickest ever.
Of special importance is his balls-faced record. Glenn Maxwell became the first to hit 500 IPL runs in 260 deliveries. Sooryavanshi did it in 227. Itβs the difference that emphasizes the aggressiveness with which he plays.

Rajasthan Royals Win as Jadeja Stars
As Sooryavanshi took the headlines off the field, Ravindra Jadeja took the match on the field. His 43 off 29 balls, without getting dismissed, and the wicket of Nicholas Pooran, won him the Player of the Match award, which he dedicated to his wife Rivaba Jadeja.
The batting of LSG failed early. Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant, and Aiden Markram were all sent back without scoring in the first three overs. Mitchell Marsh battled 55 out of 41 balls, yet the 160 was never attainable after the top order collapsed. Jofra Archer bowled 3/20 in his four overs to win the match.
Rajasthan Royals climbed to second in the IPL 2026 points table. Lucknow Super Giants are in the ninth position.
