Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, concluded IPL 2026 as the tournament’s standout performer, claiming three of its most prestigious individual honours — the Orange Cap for the highest run-scorer, the Most Valuable Player award, and the Best Emerging Player title.
The Rajasthan Royals opener became the youngest player in IPL history to win the Orange Cap, finishing the season as its leading run-scorer despite his side failing to lift the trophy.
Record-Breaking Numbers That Made the Difference
Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs across 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30, finishing atop the batting charts for the season. He struck 72 sixes during the tournament, surpassing the previous IPL record of 59, set by Chris Gayle. He also became the first batter since Gayle in 2011 to lead both the runs tally and the strike rate standings in the same IPL season, among batters who faced a minimum of 20 balls.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill finished second on the Orange Cap list with 732 runs, followed by his opening partner B Sai Sudharsan with 722.
First to Win MVP and Emerging Player in the Same Season
Sooryavanshi became the first player in IPL history to win both the Most Valuable Player and Best Emerging Player awards in the same season. At the awards ceremony following the final, he credited the tournament with sharpening his ability to read situations and adapt his game accordingly.
He also identified fitness as a priority going forward. “If I have to play long, I have to stay clear of injuries and work on my fitness,” he said.
Sachin Tendulkar, speaking at the Cricinfo Honours awards the previous evening, described Sooryavanshi as “truly special,” highlighting his wrist work and ability to pick up line and length earlier than most players at any level.

Kagiso Rabada Claims the Purple Cap
While Sooryavanshi dominated the batting awards, Gujarat Titans fast bowler Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap for taking the most wickets in the tournament. Rabada finished with 29 wickets from 17 games at an economy rate of 9.68. It was his second Purple Cap, the first coming in 2020 when he took 30 wickets for the Delhi Capitals.
RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished just one wicket behind with 28 scalps, making it a close race for the top bowling honour right through the final stages of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals reached the playoffs but fell to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh. Sooryavanshi’s awards, however, confirmed that his 2026 campaign will be remembered as one of the standout individual seasons in IPL history.
