Ind vs SL: First Thrilling Game in 2025 Asia Cup Comes in a Dead Rubber

The match between India and Sri Lanka in the 2025 Asia Cup was thought to be unimportant – India had already made it to the final, and Sri Lanka was out, so people didn’t expect much. But I was on the edge of my seat from ball one.

India survived Pathum Nissanka’s blistering hundred and the drama of a do-or-die Super Over to scrape through a win. Similarly, in this article, I break down how Abhishek Sharma’s power hitting, Nissanka’s heroics, and a nerve-wracking Super Over turned this otherwise inconsequential game into a finals-like spectacle.

Likewise, every six and wicket felt as heavy as a trophy, and believe me, it was edge-of-your-seat stuff.

Dead Rubber Drama: India vs Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2025

I went to the stadium expecting a quiet match, but opener Abhishek Sharma reminded everyone he was in red-hot form. Likewise, he tore into the bowling from ball one, blasting a quick 61 off 31 balls to propel India to 202/5.

Officially, this Super Four game meant nothing – India had already secured the Asia Cup final spot and Sri Lanka was already out – but I could feel the electricity in the air.

Fans were treated to the most exciting game of the tournament.

  • India 1st Innings: 202/5 (Abhishek Sharma 61, Tilak Varma 49*, Sanju Samson 39).
  • Sri Lanka 2nd Innings: 202/5 (Pathum Nissanka 107, Kusal Perera 58).
  • Super Over: Sri Lanka managed only 2/2 (Arshdeep Singh 2 wickets); India chased it on the first ball.

This quick summary shows India set a big target and Sri Lanka matched it, forcing a Super Over. What should have been a dull match was suddenly on fire.

Nissanka’s Century Lights Up Asia Cup 2025 Clash

I’ve seen many innings, but Pathum Nissanka’s knock was something else. From the first ball of the chase, he looked intent on clearing the ropes.

Moreover, Nissanka raced to a 58-ball 107 – the first century of the 2025 Asia Cup – laced with seven fours and six sixes. Each boundary felt like a firework lighting up the night.

He and Kusal Perera put on 127 runs for the second wicket, leaving India’s bowlers scrambling. Likewise, it was like watching a batter with a heat-seeking missile for the ropes.

Even when India fought back – Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Perera – Nissanka plowed on. In addition, he eventually fell on the first ball of the last over, but not before the game was tied at 202/5, setting the stage for a heart-stopping finale.

Super Over Showdown: India Edges Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2025

In the end, it came down to one over. The stadium fell silent as India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav – who later admitted the contest “felt like a final” – handed the ball to left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh for the Super Over.

As Yadav hoped, Arshdeep delivered a masterclass: he conceded just two runs and took two wickets in four balls. Moreover, that set India an easy target of three runs.

Suryakumar calmly stepped up and needed only the first ball to knock down the winning runs. The stadium then erupted in celebration.

Likewise, what started as a dead rubber ended in a classic, edge-of-your-seat thriller – just the kind of drama that reminds you why cricket is so addictive.
