womens ODI Series Against India

The Australian women have successfully clinched the ODI series by 2-1 against India despite Smriti Mandhana’s heroic innings in the third ODI held in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on September 20, 2025. Batting first, Australia set the target of 413 runs, which included a century from Beth Mooney; however, India were also getting close in chasing the target, but the instability in the middle order batters got them wrapped up within 369 runs in 47 overs.

Series Summary

Australia Women’s tour of India, 2025, concluded on a high note after the Aussies won the final ODI match against India on September 20 by 43 runs. The ODI series against India began from September 14, which was held at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, where Australia Women started the campaign with 8 8-wicket win. Similarly, the second ODI match in the series was played on September 17. In the match, India made a much-needed comeback as they won by 102 runs. The match, held again in Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, turned up the excitement for Australia’s ODI series against India as the final match was about to be the series decider.

Similarly, Australia and India clashed for the final ODI on September 20 in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, where Australia Women snatched the series victory by 43 runs. Despite Smriti Mandhana’s 125-run innings, India did not manage to win the match. Let’s look at the key highlights of the third ODI match between India women and Australia women.

Third ODI Match Highlight

Winning the toss, Australia Women decided to bat first, and they capitalized on the pitch and ground conditions from the very first ball of the game. The two openers, Alyssa Healy and Georgia Voll, played a safe innings, building a partnership as they put up 77 runs in 10 overs of the game.

In addition to this, Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney also played a significant role in Australia’s innings. Perry made 68 runs off 72 balls, while Mooney made 138 runs off 75 balls. Following their wicket, the other batters did not perform well as India’s Arundhati Reddy and Deepti Sharma charged from the front with 3 wickets and 2 wickets in the crucial moments. At the end of 47.5 overs, Australia Women were wrapped up in 412 runs, giving India the target of 413 runs to India.

India was certainly under pressure as they were given 413 runs to chase. As a result, they lost two quick wickets of Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol inside 10 overs. However, standing tall and playing composed innings, Smriti Mandhana started building a partnership with the other batters. During her partnership with Deepti Sharma, India were almost in the position of winning the match, but the wicket of Smriti in 21.1 overs changed the dynamics of the game. She scored 125 runs off 63 balls, while Deepti Sharma scored 72 runs off 58 balls. Australia Women’s Kim Garth took 3 wickets in the much-needed situation of the game, especially when she picked up the wicket of the opener Pratika Rawal.

At the end of 47 overs, India lost 10 wickets, crowning Australia Women the trophy with a win of 43 runs.

Amit Mishra’s Take

From a cricket enthusiast’s point of view, the Australia Women’s ODI series against India was competitive as expected, since the final ODI match was a decider of the series itself. Coming with a 1-1 win in the series, the final ODI match was expected to be a banger from the fans’ perspective, but the match went one-sided when Australia Women’s batters and bowlers started charging from the very first ball of the innings.

The heroic innings of Beth Mooney and the 3 wickets from Kim Garth helped their team get the victory, while India’s Smriti Mandhana did her best during the chase. Her 125 runs off 63 innings will be remembered forever, despite India losing the game by 43 runs
