England defeated India to secure a T20 series win on 9 July 2026. The hosts secured a nine-wicket victory at the County Ground in Bristol to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
England captain Harry Brook scored a brilliant 79 not out to help his team chase down India’s total of 158 with more than six overs to spare. This result marks the first time England has ever won a bilateral T20 series of two or more matches against the Indian team.
England is now very close to becoming the top-ranked T20 team in the world. If they win the final game in Southampton on 11 July, they will replace India as the world number one side. Harry Brook also hopes to improve his own standing in the player rankings, where he currently sits in the top 20. He stated after the match that becoming the leading side in the world is the team’s main goal.
England Dominates in Bristol to Secure the Series
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first but the England bowlers got off to a good start. India’s top order once again struggled against the English pace attack. Jofra Archer was particularly impressive, claiming two wickets for just 20 runs in his four overs. Josh Tongue took 2 wickets by giving 36 runs.
India found themselves in trouble at 48-3 after only seven overs. However, Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock to rescue his side. He scored 80 runs from 49 balls including four boundaries and five sixes. Iyer was especially aggressive against spinner Adil Rashid, scoring 44 runs from just 16 of his deliveries. Despite Iyer’s efforts, India finished on 158-7, which most experts felt was an under-par score on the Bristol pitch.

Brook and Salt Blast England to Victory
England’s chase began with the early loss of Jos Buttler for just eight runs. This gave India a small hope of defending their total, but Harry Brook and Phil Salt quickly took control. The pair shared an unbeaten partnership of 151 runs to finish the game in just 13.5 overs.
Harry Brook showed great power and skill throughout his innings of 79 from 35 balls. He reached his half-century in only 21 deliveries. Meanwhile, Phil Salt supported him well from the other end, finishing on 59 not out from 42 balls. England’s batters used their feet well and manipulated the field to make the Indian bowling attack look powerless.
Historic Achievement for the England Team
Before this series, India had won five of the last six T20 series played between the two nations. England has often struggled to beat India in this format over several years, but the current team has changed that trend.

The victory also reflects the progress made by England under the coaching of Brendon McCullum and captaincy of Harry Brook. “The team is working to a clear plan and is adapting well to different pitch conditions,” said Brook. He feels the side can go to special places if they continue to play with this confidence.
Harry Brook Chases Individual and Team Milestones
Harry Brook is the 19th-ranked T20 batter in the world. He has already reached a career-high rating earlier this year after scoring a century against Pakistan.
The captain is very focused on the team’s ranking as well. England wants to prove they are the best T20 side by beating the current world champions convincingly. Brook admitted the team is eyeing up the number one spot and wants to complete a 4-0 series win to make it a special summer.
