Hyderabad Kingsmen recorded their first-ever win in Pakistan Super League history on Saturday night, defeating Karachi Kings by four wickets in a tense run chase at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Chasing 189, the Kingsmen reached their target in 19.1 overs, with Hassan Khan and Irfan Khan delivering the finishing act when it mattered most. Their unbroken 50-run seventh-wicket stand off just 24 balls settled what had been a back-and-forth contest throughout, ending Hyderabad’s winless streak after four previous attempts.
Kings Set a Challenging Target
Karachi Kings posted 188 for 8 in their 20 overs, though the innings needed a strong push in the final stages to reach that total. David Warner was absent due to a back injury, and his replacement Reeza Hendricks fell in the first over, leaving the Kings without an ideal platform. Saad Baig steadied the innings with a composed 53 before being retired out as the team shifted gears for the death overs.
The real acceleration came from Moeen Ali, who played one of the innings of the season. The English allrounder blasted 44 off just 16 deliveries, punishing two spinners mercilessly in consecutive overs. Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub conceded 40 runs between them in two overs, largely to Moeen, which pushed Karachi well beyond a par score.
Hunain Shah was the standout bowler for Hyderabad, taking 3 for 19 in four overs. His ability to hit the yorker length in the death overs restricted what could have been an even larger total.

Kingsmen Fly in the Powerplay
Hyderabad’s chase began in explosive fashion. Marnus Labuschagne smashed 26 off ten balls, while Maaz Sadaqat added to the carnage from the other end. The Kingsmen reached 76 in the powerplay, one of the fastest starts of the 2026 PSL season.
However, the momentum shifted as wickets began to fall. Abbas Afridi dismissed Usman Khan after a well-timed intervention, and Adam Zampa picked up the key wicket of Sadaqat with a well-flighted delivery, taken by a diving catch from Khushdil Shah at midwicket. Further losses left Hyderabad’s top five back in the dugout with 75 still needed.
The situation grew more uncertain when Kusal Perera was run out attempting a quick single, bringing the innings to its final recognised partnership.
Hassan and Irfan Seal the Win
With Hyderabad needing 24 off the last three overs, Hassan Khan and Irfan Khan combined to take the chase home without drama. They paced their running and timing well, and after punishing a loose Ihsanullah over, the equation became manageable. Irfan finished on 29 not out and Hassan on 33 not out off 16 balls, earning him the Player of the Match award.
The result means Hyderabad Kingsmen open their points account for the season, while Karachi Kings suffer a second consecutive defeat and will look to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
