ICC Sends An Email Citing “Misconduct” and “Multiple Violations” To PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been warned by the International Cricket Council on its misconduct and various protocol breaches in the Asia Cup 2025. The Economic Times reports that the problems include the PCB permitting one of its managerial staff of media Naeem Gillani to be present at and film a private meeting between match referee Andy Pycroft and coach Mike Hesson and captain Salman Ali Agha, which violated PMOA regulations.

The ICC questioned the PCB on their argument that Pycroft had apologized, clearing that he had only apologized to an instance of miscommunication. To preserve fairness and integrity, the ICC is now implementing disciplinary measures and that is why it is important to ensure that rules of the tournament are followed.

ICC Warns PCB Over Asia Cup Controversy

The PCB received a serious email from the International Cricket Council (ICC) accusing them of misbehavior and numerous tournament rule breaches during the 2025 Asia Cup.

The PCB allegedly authorized the illegal recording of a confidential conversation with match referee Andy Pycroft and alleged that Pycroft expressed an apology, which the ICC denies.

To uphold the standards of international cricket the ICC is already looking into the possibilities of imposing disciplinary action against PCB. This is in reaction to these activities, which have created critical issues of protocol violation.

Where Things Went Wrong

Before Pakistan’s match against the UAE, the PCB reportedly delayed leaving the hotel by about an hour in protest of the ICC’s decision to retain Pycroft as match referee. In addition, the PCB allowed media manager Naeem Gillani to attend a meeting that was meant to be private, which included Pycroft, coach Mike Hesson, and captain Salman Ali Agha.

Although the regulations specifically prohibit recording private conversations, it was reported that phones were used to record the meeting. The ICC disputes the PCB’s later public admission that Pycroft had apologized. Confusion and controversy were generated by all of these actions, which exposed a blatant violation of the Players and Match Officials Area protocol.

ICC has written a letter and emails to PCB, categorically mentioning multiple violations yesterday by PCB, citing shooting video inside the stadium on match day and posting video on its social media handles.

Amit Mishra’s Take

In my opinion, it is shameful to observe that the PCB was engaged in such a scandal rather than concentrating on cricket. The sport has a rich and honored history and incidents like this one contaminates the spirit of this game.

Although PCB may have been doing so to protect their team, it is worth bearing in mind that there are rules that are put in place to guarantee fairness and transparency. This would be followed by making sure all the teams are treated equally and that the integrity of the game of cricket is upheld.

The strict action of the ICC shows that it is disastrous when there are minor breaches of protocol and that cricket boards need not dismiss them lightly.
