India is set to announce its India Asia Cup squad around August 19 or 20, with reports suggesting Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul may be left out. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya are expected in the top order, while Shubman Gill has a strong chance of inclusion.
According to NDTV, final approval will depend on clearance from the Sports Science team.
[REPORT] Indiaβs Asia Cup 2025 Squad Sparks Big Selection Buzz
Cricket fans are keenly waiting for the official announcement of the India Asia Cup squad. Reports suggest that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has made some bold decisions, leaving out a few big names ahead of the tournament in the UAE starting September 9.
The most surprising omission is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite a brilliant IPL 2025 season with 559 runs at a strike rate close to 160, he is likely to miss out.
The selectors seem to be sticking with the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, who have performed well in recent T20I matches.
While Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan are expected to be absent from the list, Test captain Shubman Gill has a high chance of making it. His strong recent form and versatility across formats make him a valuable option for the top order in the India Asia Cup squad.
[UPDATE] The Names You Will See in the Squad
The India Asia Cup squad is expected to feature a strong core of experienced and in-form players. Abhishek Sharma, currently ranked the number one T20I batter, will continue to open the innings. Sanju Samson will keep his place as wicketkeeper-batter, and Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead the side, fitness permitting.
The addition of Tilak Varma will offer the middle order more depth, while Hardik Pandya will provide his all-around abilities. Jasprit Bumrah is going to lead the pace attack, although his workload will be carefully monitored.
When the Sports Science team’s fitness reports are received the following week, the final list of players will be verified, completing the official India Asia Cup squad.

The Opinion of Amit Mishra
It’s never easy to leave out talented players like Sudharsan, Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Jaiswalβs aggressive batting, KL and Sudharsanβs composure under pressure could have been handy. That said, the possibility of Shubman Gill making the cut could strengthen the India Asia Cup squad with both stability and class at the top.
The Asia Cup is a short, high-pressure tournament. Going in with a tried and tested lineup gives the team a better chance to gel quickly. While it is tough for those missing out, it also pushes them to work harder and be ready for the next opportunity.
If the India Asia Cup squad delivers results, the decisions will be praised. But if the team struggles, the absence of certain players will surely be brought up again. Either way, the debate has already begun, and it is clear this squad announcement is one of the most talked-about in recent years.
