Champions Trophy semi-finals

As the 2025 Champions Trophy gets more exciting, New Zealand and India have made it to the semi-finals after strong performances in the group stage.

New Zealand won against Bangladesh, while India had a notable victory over Pakistan, ensuring their advancement. With both teams playing well, an exciting match is expected as they aim for the final.

New Zealand and India’s Semi-Final Qualification

New Zealand and India have both made it to the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-finals after performing well in the group stage. New Zealand secured a five-wicket victory against Bangladesh, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s century, which guaranteed their qualification.Β

India proceeded with two thumping wins in their group, one of them against Pakistan, a dominating win that put them at the top of their group. That ensured them a final four spot. Both teams will now be playing against stronger teams in the semi-finals, with good momentum heading into the next phase of the tournament.Β

Their consistent performances and perfect records indicate they are likely to reach the final.

Rachin Ravindra’s Match-Winning Century

Rachin Ravindra’s century took New Zealand to a five-wicket win over Bangladesh and into the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-finals. Ravindra led the side through early troubles in his first Champions Trophy match, to secure a hard-fought victory.

While chasing a target of 237, New Zealand was at 72/3 when Ravindra came in to bat with Tom Latham. Together, they built an important partnership of 129 runs for the fourth wicket, with Ravindra taking on the anchor role.

He scored his fourth ODI century, showing both calmness and aggression, including a quick half-century off 50 balls. This performance also helped him reach 1000 ODI runs in just 26 innings, making him the fifth-fastest New Zealander to achieve this milestone.

Ravindra’s strong performance was crucial for New Zealand after losing early wickets, like Will Young and Kane Williamson. His steady batting helped New Zealand stay on track, with Latham providing support to steady the innings.

Key Partnerships and Contributions in New Zealand’s Chase

New Zealand’s 237-run chase versus Bangladesh was marked by useful partnerships and fine individual performances, which saw them through to the Champions Trophy semi-finals. The Black Caps, after some initial worries, got together with some fine batting to achieve the target with ease. Some of the fine partnerships in the match are given below:

  • Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham (4th wicket – 129 runs): This partnership made the chase achievable. Both Ravindra’s century and Latham’s contribution were pivotal.
  • Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway (50-run partnership): This partnership proved to be a vital stabilizing factor for the innings after the loss in the initial stages.

Bangladesh’s Struggles and New Zealand’s Dominance

Bangladesh struggled throughout their innings, being unable to form strong partnerships, and thus, it was easy for New Zealand to gain superiority with the bat as well as ball. Despite the openers’ good start, the middle order couldn’t hold up under pressure and New Zealand’s swift performance kept them in control.

  • Early Breakthroughs: Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana took out important players, leaving Bangladesh at 24/2.
  • Middle-Order Collapse: New Zealand’s effective bowling and fielding led to key wickets, including Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmud Ullah.
  • Shanto’s Resistance: Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a half-century, helping Bangladesh reach 236/9, but it was not enough to overcome New Zealand’s strength.

Bangladesh’s early elimination from the Champions Trophy shows issues in partnership building and pressure management. They need to get their middle-order collapses and fielding mistakes in order. They need to review their plans and improve on consistency for the future ICC tournaments.
